Papers are encouraged to send staffers to receive their awards and be recognized for their work on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the MPA Convention in Kansas City. Those who can’t attend the entire Convention can attend the Saturday program -excluding breakfast -- for just $50. That includes all morning sessions and the Awards Luncheon. Plan to be there! _______________________________________________ -- Football tickets order deadline is July 19 The deadline is July 19 to order tickets to Mizzou’s season-opening home football game with the Murray State Racers on Saturday, Aug. 31. (Game time TBA). The voluntary program involves you publishing Mizzou advertising in your newspaper in exchange for tickets (minimum of 6 tickets, maximum of 20 tickets per publication). Tickets are $49 each. Multiply that by the number of tickets you want. In return, your newspaper provides advertising of equal value. Ad placement through Missouri Press is expected at intervals between August and December. MPA’s Legal Hotline counselor, Jean Maneke, will talk about lawsuits that arise from photographs published in newspapers. MDN is the Missouri School of Journalism program that provides FREE news from the Capitol while the legislature is in session. Missouri Press emails to all of its member newspapers MDN’s weekly Capitol Report during the legislative session. The report includes a column by Phill Brooks titled “Capitol Perspectives.” MDN also maintains a frequently updated website with legislative news and many other online resources for you to keep your readers informed about activity in the Capitol. Professor Brooks directs MDN. He wants input from newspapers about what he and his students can do to meet your need for news out of Jefferson City. His goal is to get more newspapers to use MDN material, all of which is free of charge. Let Missouri Press know if you will participate in some telephone/email conversation about how to improve MDN.
