Below are 17 Program Outcomes for the UCLA IH Program. Program Outcomes are specific skills and knowledge you are expected to acquire through the IH Program. For each Program Outcome, please answer the following questions:

(a) identify agents, factors, and stressors generated by and/or associated with defined sources, unit operations, and/or processes;

(a) identify agents, factors, and stressors generated by and/or associated with defined sources, unit operations, and/or processes;

(b) describe qualitative and quantitative aspects of occupational health agents, factors, and stressors;

(c) understand physiological and/or toxicological interactions of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic agents, factors, and/or stressors with the human body;

(d) assess qualitative and quantitative aspects of exposure assessment, dose-response, and risk characterization based on applicable pathways and modes of entry;

(e) calculate, interpret, and apply epidemiological data;

(f) recommend and evaluate engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment controls and/or other interventions to reduce or eliminate hazards;

(g) understand applicable business and managerial practices, and industrial hygiene program management methods;

(h) interpret and apply applicable occupational and environmental regulations;

(i) understand fundamental aspects of safety and environmental health;

(j) attain recognized professional certification after the required period of professional practice;

(k) participate in a research or field activity resulting in a report that demonstrates both mastery of the subject matter and a high level of professional and public communication skills;

(l) understand and solve applied science problems appropriate to professional practice in the field of industrial hygiene;

(m) understand and apply statistical concepts and tools appropriate to professional practice in the field of industrial hygiene;

(n) recognize the need for life-long learning;

(o) understand professional and ethical responsibilities of an industrial hygienist; and

(p) understand the need for working as part of an interdisciplinary team.

(q) communicate effectively with other professionals, workers, and the public.

1. To equip program graduates with the underlying technical and scientific knowledge required for the professional practice of industrial hygiene.

2. To equip program graduates with specialized, practical, and experiential knowledge and skills necessary for the professional practice of industrial hygiene.

3. To equip program graduates with the communication skills necessary for the professional practice of industrial hygiene.

4. To impart to program graduates an appreciation of the need to work as part of an interdisciplinary team addressing occupational health problems.

5. To instill in program graduates the understanding that the practice of industrial hygiene involves ongoing learning and self-criticism .
