2. List the major events that take place in
chronological order.
- P & greasers get interviewed by reporters
- the paper said “Juvenile delinquents save kids”
- lots of talk about the rumble
- go to see Johnny & Dally in the hospital
- J’s mom shows up- J gets upset & doesn’t want
to see her… he passes out
- P talked to Randy about how they’re tired of
fighting

- p. 107: Two-Bit says, “Y’all were heroes from the
beginning. You didn’t just turn into them all of a
sudden.”

situation
4. One major theme of the chapter is that “things
are rough all over.” Use a Venn diagram to show
what’s rough for the Greasers, what’s rough for
the Socs, and what’s rough for both of these
groups.
-G: get judged for being poor, missing guidance or
strong parent figures, if they get caught they’ll go to
jail
-S: get judged for being rich, missing discipline or
limits, if they get caught they’ll get bailed out
-BOTH: get jumped, communication problems at
home
5. Give some specific examples of how Pony and
Darry’s relationship is changing. Use pages 100113.

-p. 104: Pony made breakfast (instead of waking
up Darry)
-p. 110: Pony had a nightmare & Darry was there
for him
6. How is the gang like an extended family?
Explain using pages 105-115.
- many don’t have supportive families or parents
- they have to stick together & be responsible for
each other

5. How were Johnny’s feelings for his family before he went to the hospital
compared to his feelings while he is in the hospital? Use a t-chart to show
the differences.
6. How does Pony feel about Cherry Valance right now? Use a specific
example from pages 127-130 to support your opinion.
