BTMM 055 - 101 Media Management and Organization Spring, 2006 Temple University School of Communications and Theatre Description of Project Type 2. “Project 2” involves the creation of a management plan for a media outlet. This doesn’t (technically) require you to manage a media outlet, but you must develop plans related to all aspects of management as if it did. Also note that server space is available to you through Temple (or through mattsmediaresearch) at no cost. The development and management of a website is an ideal project for this class. You do not need technical expertise to do this since I will assist you in any aspect of web design and/or development. Criteria for “Project Type 2”: Technical Management. This section should contain an organized plan for managing and maintaining the technical infrastructure necessary for dissemination of content. A detailed description of hardware, software and service requirements along with an anticipated budget accounting for these items is necessary for this portion of the assignment. Production Management. This section should include a template for managing and coordinating all aspects of production. The template must then be applied to at least one specific project in the form of a detailed proposal. Content Management. This section must describe the content to be disseminated. Planning this portion should be integrated with the marketing and advertising sections below. Marketing Management. This section should include a specific statement describing the content you are producing and the audience you intend to reach. Advertising Management. This section should lay out plans for how you intend to inform potential consumers about content. Drafts of print ads, storyboards, radio spots, etc. are necessary for successful completion of this portion. Progress Notes. Beginning the fourth week of class, weekly progress notes are required. These can range from drafts of plans to advertisement ideas to budget plans and potential sources of funding. The important thing here is that some substantial progress must be made on a weekly basis. All progress notes must be typed and include copies of any work claimed in the notes. For example, if your notes indicate that you have been working on the development of a marketing plan, the marketing plan must be included with your notes. 1 Grading for “Project Type 2”: Technical Management (15%) (check one box): Excellent Comprehensive description of hardware, software and service requirements.
