SECTION 088000 - GLAZING
SatinDecoTM glass is an acid-etched product manufactured by Guardian Industries. SatinDecoTM glass by Guardian
Industries is acid-etched in a horizontal process with the acid applied in a continuous curtain resulting in a
controlled surface. Finger prints are not prominent and do not show like other acid etches. Resultant waste byproducts are disposed of in a state of the art waste treatment facility to neutralize acid and causing no harm to the
environment as all waste is neutral and contained with no release into the environment. Ease of handling and
fabrication resulting in fewer costly remakes.
SatinDecoTM glass by Guardian Industries can be used either monolithically, laminated, or in insulating glass units in
combination with other SunGuard® coated glass products by Guardian Industries to produce a unique look to
meet a variety of aesthetic design objectives

Source Limitations for Glass: Obtain acid-etched glass from single source from single
manufacturer for each glass type.
DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
Store acid-etched glass in a dry, well ventilated area, protected against rain and not
subjected to temperature and humidity fluctuations that create condensation. To avoid
staining, keep away from sources of heat such as ovens/furnaces or high temperature
washers and corrosive materials or agents such as organic solvent vapors, chemicals,
acids or fuel. Store at temperatures above 59ºF (15ºC) and at maximum humidity of 60
percent.
B.
Protect the acid-etched side from contact with any surface which can leave dirt or
marks on the glass.

applied to the un-etched (inside) surface of the shower and SatinDeco (etched side) faces the outside. Must be
fully tempered. Available in clear and low-iron options. ShowerGuard is the industries first easier to clean product
that is fused at the ionic level creating a permanent bond to the smooth surface of the glass making it easier to
clean. This is permanent and need no replenishment in the field. Warranty is available. Please call Guardian for

SatinDecoTM by Guardian Industries is also available on DiamondGuard® by Guardian Industries. DiamondGuard® is
a durable, scratch-resistant option that stays beautiful and easy to clean. Annealed only. Can be laminated for
safety, noise and ultraviolet (UV) control. Available in clear and low-iron options.
SatinDecoTM by Guardian Industries can also be painted or lacquered. Lacquering or painting is performed on the non
acid-etched side of the glass. The result will be a lacquered or painted glass with a satinated finish (no reflection).

FABRICATION OF ACID-ETCHED GLAZING UNITS
SatinDecoTM by Guardian Industries is produced in Guardian Industries' Spain facility on float glass according to
Spanish Standard UNE-EN 572-2.
A.
Fabricate acid-etched glass using top-quality float glass, in compliance with European
standards (UNE-EN 57202 Norm). Apply acid that dissolves part of the glass, creating
a smooth and flat surface that disperses light and transforms transparent float into a
translucent glass. Apply acid only by continuous curtain process to ensure a smooth
finish which does not allow body oils to penetrate the glass; is resistant to stains and
fingerprints; and complies with other requirements specified. Dip process acid-etching
is not permitted.
Using any float and then etching via a dipping method or a static method can lead to inconsistency in product and
substrate color. When dipping (typically products from China and Latin America) the glass has a longer exposure
time on the edge going in the acid first and coming out last causing a different feel and look across the sheet of
glass.
Poor etching or inconsistent surface roughness causes a much harder time to clean resulting in costly remakes. Too
much roughness (peaks being spread too far apart) means more contaminants that could stick in the etch like
cerium, etc causing stain. Finger prints also are an issue.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01
CLEANING AND PROTECTION
SatinDecoTM by Guardian Industries acid-etched glass should be washed with water (results will be better with water
temperature of 120-140°F (40 to 50ºC) followed by a cool water rinse. No special chemicals are required. Use
soap and water or regular glass cleaner and a clean, soft, lint-free wipe for spot cleaning and stubborn marks. Mr.
Clean Magic Eraser is also effective.

Clean mirrors with a soft, grit free cloth using warm water. Do not use any acid, alkali
or ammonia cleaners. Do not allow mirror edges to remain wet.
