This is a WebQuest based on the study of film. Here you will learn what you can understand from different ways of using film techniques, we’ll look at a number of the main characters from the film, and finally you’ll get the chance to create a missing scene from the film. Who knows, you might even change the 1 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org whole story! Why wait any longer, lets get started now! Click ‘Task’ in the bar and we can look at our first project. 2 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org TASK INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS RESOURCES TEACHER NOTES ASSESSMENT CONCLUSION There are three tasks for you to do before you can say you’ve completed this WebQuest. 1. In pairs, research and define different camera angles and provide examples of how they are used. 2. Individually, provide a character description and analysis for Mufasa, Simba, Scar and Zazu. 3. In groups of four, develop a storyboard for a missing scene in the film. Examples of scenes are: - Scar setting the hyenas up to kill Simba in the Elephant’s graveyard or Narla’s escape from Scar’s camp at Pride Rock to search for Simba. 3 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org PROCESS INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS RESOURCES TEACHER NOTES ASSESSMENT CONCLUSION Task 1: You will be working in pairs, time to find a buddy and start talking film and camera techniques! In Microsoft Word, you will need to fill in the following table, defining what each technique is used for as well as providing an example of how it is used. Film Technique: Definition: Example: High Angle Shot Low Angle Shot Lighting (Shadows) Point of view shot Long Shot Close up shot 4 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org Extreme Close up Music Task 2: Individually now, there are four major characters in the film, The Lion King. What you have to do is create a character profile for each of them. Below I’ve provided a picture of these characters, you must identify them, tell me what they look like, and finally describe their personality. Character Photo Name What do they look like? 5 Describe their personality Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org 6 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org 7 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org Task 3: This is where you get to be creative and work in groups! In groups of four, you now get to design and write your own storyboard in which you are to write a scene which is not in the film. A storyboard for each scene generally has between 15 and 30 frames (an example can be found in the ‘Resources’ tab) The best way to do this is either hand draw your storyboard or use Software such as StoryBoard Pro Think about the camera techniques, lighting and music we discussed in Task 1 as well as the characters from Task 2 to create your storyboard. 8 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org RESOURCES INTRODUCTION TASK PROCESS RESOURCES TEACHER NOTES ASSESSMENT CONCLUSION Resources for Task 1: Producing Videos: A Complete guide by Martha Mollison Traditional Film Techniques: http://www.siggraph.org/education/materials/HyperGraph/animation/cameras/traditional_film_camera_techniqu.htm Camera Angles and Techniques: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jURepXxuiGE Resources for Task 2: The Lion King Characters: http://www.lionking.org/characters/ The Lion King Image Archieve: http://www.lionking.org/imgarchive/ Resources for Task 3: Basic Techniques for drawing storyboards: http://storyboard.cfms.uct.ac.za/ How to draw a storyboard: http://www.microfilmmaker.com/downloads/How_to_draw_storyboards.pdf Drawing Storyboards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9q1b6AiUxk 9 Made using the Webquest Template © FuturePD 2000 www.futurepd.org ASSESSMENT INTRODUCTION References TASK PROCESS RESOURCES TEACHER NOTES ASSESSMENT CONCLUSION Beginning to Develop At Expected Level Above Expected Level Evidence of utilising one source Evidence of using two or more Evidence of using several sources per task, information has been sources per task, information for a task, information is copied and pasted. been paraphrased paraphrased and has been critically analysed Film Techniques Information has been written in Information has been Information is presented in a grid with little or no detail presented in a creative creative manner, which the aide of manner, with a good range of vidual or sound files. detail. The outcomes, which this unit covers, are; 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 11. For more information refer to the syllabus as provided above. For further details on the WebQuest, contact LaSalle Catholic College Bankstown who have already approved an 8 week unit on this topic to be designed through team teaching. 13
