In addition to the Social Policy assessment criteria on this sheet, you are also being assessed on your PowerPoint presentation (see separate assessment criteria for IT and make sure that your PowerPoint slides meet these criteria). To achieve level 2, you should describe three of the main ideologies of welfare that we have studied in class. These are the Social Democratic approach, the New Right (or Market Liberal) approach, the Third Way, the Marxist approach and the Feminist approach. Outline the main arguments of your chosen approaches. Make sure that you describe their views about the role of the welfare state. To achieve level 3, you need to explain in detail three of the main ideologies of welfare that we have studied in class (see list above). Explain the arguments of each approach in some depth. Make sure that you explain their views about the role of the welfare state. The presentations will be delivered over four weeks between 22 March and 26 April. Dates for presentations will be allocated randomly. However, you will need to submit a copy of your PowerPoint slides and any prompt notes on 21 March, so that all members of the class have the same deadline for producing materials. Remember that you are being assessed on your understanding of the ideologies of welfare and on your PowerPoint slides. Although the clarity of your presentation is important, you are not being assessed directly on your presentation skills, other than those linked to your PowerPoint assessment. (See separate IT PowerPoint assessment criteria.) Your PowerPoint slides should summarise key points and should be accompanied by more detailed notes pages (using PowerPoint) to ensure that you explain each ideology in sufficient depth.
