Guy Whitehead, Group Chief Executive of Armourcoat Ltd, has won the Institute of Directors
(IoD) ‘South East Director of the Year’ Award. The Award was presented at a glittering Gala
dinner and Awards evening, held at the IoD’s headquarters in London’s Pall Mall on the 8th
November. Five Directors of the Year, from an area stretching from Banbury to Dover, were
awarded at dinner, hosted by TV’s Maggie Philbin and Steven Norris, former Transport
Minister.
The IoD Awards are designed to highlight and applaud successful directors throughout the
region. Guy had been picked from over 100 nominees. IoD Regional Director, Rodger Broad
commented “The judges, all highly successful business people themselves, thought Guy was
exceptional because of his already proven success and his commitment to training provision.”
Rodger continued: “Directors come to us from all over the world for help and advice on their
professional development. Here we are saying: ‘Look at these people, they excel at business
leadership; their skills are benefiting not only their company, but their employees, industry and
the community’ ”.
Armourcoat specialises in the creation and global distribution of decorative coatings. The
Group’s activities include a stone casting workshop and a specialist plastering division. Trade
skill, product knowledge, substrate understanding and health and safety training are central to
the Group’s success. The Armourcoat Group is judged to be well on the way to being a global
leader in high-end decorative coatings.
The company – based in Sevenoaks, Kent - has tremendous ambition and has captured great
technical and sales talent over the years. Speaking of his recognition, Guy spoke of the
partnership of the last decade with the Group’s Design Director, Duncan MacKellar; “With
different skills, but a wholly common strategic aim, Duncan and I have built a global brand
operating in sixty-five countries and growing. Duncan’s exceptional talents in design and
conceptual thinking have provided a wonderful sales and marketing opportunity. This has been
reflected in revenue and profit growth year on year. The opportunities provided for people
across the Group are quite exceptional”. Both Guy and Duncan live in Tunbridge Wells.
The company has already scooped several county and industry awards over the past few
years; ‘Kent Businessman of the Year 2005’ and ‘Kent Company of the Year 2006’ in the Kent
Business Awards, and ‘New Market Breakthrough’ in the Mixology Industry Awards 2007.
