Vocabulary Careers: Foundation Standards LA:8.1.5 Vocabulary Define and understand vocabulary terms by manipulating the SMART Board activities, iPad apps, worksheets, etc. Career Exploration Steve Jobs Commencement Speech Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text in which the rhetoric is particularly effective, analyzing how style and content contribute to the power, persuasiveness or beauty of the text. LA: 8.1.6 Write a persuasive blog regarding “How to Live Your Life”. Comment on blogs of classmates. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. LA:8.2.1 C4C 3.1 Complete Qualities for Success, What are Skills?, and a Career Cluster Inventory to help student learn about themselves and how their skills and abilities would relate to career success. 2.1 Students will complete an Occupations Scavenger Hunt and an If I Become activity to familiarize themselves with the NCIS website and the many careers available to them. 2.3 Students will be able to identify compositions of career clusters and the relationship to the career field by researching and creating a mobile. 1.2, 5.1, 5.2 Learners will answer what work is, why people work, and what rewards they want from work by completing exploration activities. 1.3 Students will make choices and complete problem solving activities regarding work and income by completing the Reality Check simulation. 3.2 Learners will complete a career action plan to meet career goals by completing SMART goals. 3.2 Students will review what employability skills are by completing various activities regarding working together, listening skills, dependability and time management. 1.3, 2.2, 2.3 Learners will blog and respond to classmates regarding describing extended learning opportunities that will help build their employability skills. Assessments Create a poster comparing and contrasting personal postsecondary education options, using Nebraska Career Instructional Systems website 6.1, 6.2 L2J Students will be assessed on vocabulary words by taking weekly L2J quizzes. At the end of the quarter, a major part of the quarterfinal will be vocabulary words.
