BILINGUAL MAGAZINE OF THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE “ ANGHEL SALIGNY”
IT APPEARS EVERY SEMESTER
4th NUMBER,
DECEMBER 2007
HO ! HO ! HO ! Merry christmas !!!
This is a wonderful season, a season for greetings, a season for gifts,a season for love and peace. The magical
atmosphere invites you to dream about miracles and to believe in them.
What better season for the 4th issue of our bilingual magazine? A perfect gift for you, a perfect gift for us,
why not?
It is usually in this time of the year when we draw the line and count the good and the bad things we have
been through , so this issue of the magazine can be considered a mirror of our work together- only the good
deeds, though  !
We cannot ignore the fact that you, our students, have accepted the challenges proposed to you by the
teachers from the English Department of our high school, we cannot ignore the good work you have done . Nor
the good work of the teachers !
And most of all, this magazine is a reflection of your character, of your knowledge, of your understanding
of life, of your creativity – which are all very important when it comes to proving what kind of people we are,
what characterizes the Romanians and why we have earned our right to be treated with respect by the EU
members. Because this magazine is and was meant to be a pathway to the EU civilisation and a way to develop our
“ Europeanness”. Unfortunately, not all the EU member countries believe that we are civilised enough for Europe,
so this magazine can be a way to prove that this is who we really are.
But let us remember that it is Christmas time and be joyful for that! Let us hope that 2008 is going to be a
far better year than this one and let me wish you all
Merry christmas ! and a happy new year !

Celebrations in Europe -Halloween
Halloween
Europe 4/December 2007
Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include
trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. The term Halloween
(and its alternative rendering Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day",[1]
which is now also known as All Saints' Day. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North
America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century.
Halloween is now celebrated in several parts of the Western world, most commonly in Ireland, the United States,
Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom and occasionally in parts of Australia, New Zealand, and Dooklaluk
Village in Zimbabwe.

Celebrations in Europe - Halloween
Europe 4/ December 2007
The English Department of our high school ( more precisely Mrs Lazar Anca and Mrs Tataru Aurica) have
decided to initiate a contest called THE SPOOKIEST HALLOWEEN STORY, in order to celebrate
Halloween. The only condition required was for the stories to include the following words and expressions:
blackness, rummaging, to grab, a dusty smell, trapped, reward, to smile, creaking, to fool around, spooky.
The idea was a real hit and a lot of our pupils started to write spooky stories. So, it was really difficult to
choose the best stories. In the end, the winners were:
Lucaci Vlad ( IX E), Dancos Patrick ( X A), Rusu Sergiu ( XI D), Szollosi Zoltan ( XII D) and Gaie Flaviu
( XII D).
Here is one of the rewarded stories. Enjoy it!
THE
BEAST
This story was told to me by my grandmother, it’s a story about two teenagers, a boy and a girl who wanted to visit a
friend in a far away town but on the road they had a lot of problems .
It was a nice spring day with some clouds on the sky and the teens weren’t even thinking that something dreadful is
going to happen to them . They had a puncture, they changed the wheel and after 10 km they had another puncture,
they had no other wheel and they pushed the car to a small town where they asked for help. The people from that
town were very strange and they were insisting that they should stay in the hotel for the night but they are in a hurry
to get to their friend , they left the town when it was already night they were listening to music on the radio and in a
moment the play changed and the radio kept saying with a smile voice “I’m coming after you , you have nice eyes”,
“I’m coming after you , you have nice eyes” they started to laugh but after 9 minute, from blackness, a spooky
creature appeared .It looked like a bat, but they couldn’t see its face , and it pulled out the roof of the car and
grabbed the girl , The boy helped the girl to escape but the creature grabbed him and took him away. The girl tried
to follow them but she couldn’t do this because the creature was flying . She managed to find a small house where
she believed they went. Meanwhile, the boy was unconscious and he woke up and felt a dusty smell. When he
watched around him he was horrified, there were a lot of corpses on all the walls, like paintings, all without their
eyes; he was rummaging for an escape but he couldn’t find one the floor was creaking and he was trapped
underground ; but his luck was the girl which found an old well without water and she started to hail him and he
heard her. He managed to escape with the girl’s help , they ran to the car and left that place very fast. And they
were on the way to their friend town .
They started to fool around and just when they thought they escaped they heard that song again and the beast
came and took the boy. This time the girl couldn’t follow them and she was too frightened to go back and she run
away as fast as she could . The boy was put on the wall with the other corpse and the creature took his eyes off.
And after the girl got home she put a very big reward on the beast’s head. A lot of hunters went to catch the beast
but no one got back!
This is the end!!!

ALBERT EINSTEIN
Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to
Munich and he began his schooling there at the Luitpold Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and Albert continued his
education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a
teacher in physics and mathematics. In 1901, the year he gained his diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship and, as he was
unable to find a teaching post, he accepted a position as technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In 1905 he obtained his
doctor's degree.
During his stay at the Patent Office, and in his spare time, he produced much of his remarkable work and in 1908 he
was appointed Privatdozent in Berne. In 1909 he became Professor Extraordinary at Zurich, in 1911 Professor of Theoretical
Physics at Prague, returning to Zurich in the
following year to fill a similar post. In 1914 he
was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm
Physical Institute and Professor in the University
of Berlin. He became a German citizen in 1914
and remained in Berlin until 1933 when he
renounced his citizenship for political reasons
and emigrated to America to take the position of
Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton*.
He became a United States citizen in 1940 and
retired from his post in 1945.
After World War II, Einstein was a leading
figure in the World Government Movement, he
was offered the Presidency of the State of Israel,
which he declined, and he collaborated with Dr.
Chaim Weizmann in establishing the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem.
Einstein always appeared to have a clear view of the problems of physics and the determination to solve them. He
had a strategy of his own and was able to visualize the main stages on the way to his goal. He regarded his major
achievements as mere stepping-stones for the next advance.
At the start of his scientific work, Einstein realized the inadequacies of Newtonian mechanics and his special theory of
relativity stemmed from an attempt to reconcile the laws of mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field. He dealt
with classical problems of statistical mechanics and problems in which they were merged with quantum theory: this led to an
explanation of the Brownian movement of molecules. He investigated the thermal properties of light with a low radiation
density and his observations laid the foundation of the photon theory of light.
In his early days in Berlin, Einstein postulated that the correct interpretation of the special theory of relativity must also
furnish a theory of gravitation and in 1916 he published his paper on the general theory of relativity. During this time he also
contributed to the problems of the theory of radiation and statistical mechanics.
In the 1920's, Einstein embarked on the construction of unified field theories, although he continued to work on the
probabilistic interpretation of quantum theory, and he persevered with this work in America. He contributed to statistical
mechanics by his development of the quantum theory of a monatomic gas and he has also accomplished valuable work in
connection with atomic transition probabilities and relativistic cosmology.
After his retirement he continued to work towards the unification of the basic concepts of physics, taking the opposite
approach, geometrisation, to the majority of physicists.

We & Europe
Europe 4/ December 2007
There are many ways to communicate your feelings. You may use words,
you may use sounds, you may use gestures or…you may use …drawings. All of
these are equally important in our lives.
My colleague, Mrs Anca Lazar , has discovered that one of our pupils has
a special talent for drawing. Who is this gifted person?
RAD DAN ANGELO from the 11th B , SAM . Here are some of his drawings:

tHE BEST SPEAKER IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL
On November 29th 2007, the English Department of our high school organized a
speaking contest for all our students . It is a well known fact that at the graduation
exam, our pupils have to sustain an oral examination, so practising speaking is very
important for them. Therefore, this new challenge was a pertinent one and it was
actually enjoyed by our students.
The students received images taken from their textbooks and, based on those
images, they had to speak freely and the most correctly possible. Of course, creativity
played a great part in establishing the winners of this contest.
And the winners were....
MARGINAS VLAD , XII C -1ST PRIZE
RUSU SERGIU , XI D – 2ND PRIZE
BABICIU ADRIAN , XI A – 3RD PRIZE
LUCACI VLAD , IX E -3RD PRIZE

This is the rubric in which we present pictures of our students who have been travelling abroad – within
the EU space. And up to now, we have had a lot of photos sent to us by you.
But this time, we are going to offer you a first. What do I mean by that?
Two of the students from our Technical College have visited Hungary and Austria. So far, nothing exceptional.
The strange thing is that they have taken photos in the exact same sights, even though their visits were not at the
same time.
Who are the two students? Ster Daniela, from 12th B and Ielenschi Ancuta, from 12th F. This time , the
photos are taken from a site where the two girls have profiles and photo galleries ( www.hi5.com ) . Don’t you
think that these two girls have many things in common? And they do not even know it!
7
Rather strange, is it not? Anyway, you have to admit that the two girls are quite pretty  .
I thought that two more pictures are needed , not to leave you with the impression that Dana and Anca
have exactly the same tastes when it comes to travelling. Here they are:
Since this is the last page of the English part, I would like to thank my pupils for their contribution to the
magazine and I would like to thank my colleagues, Mrs Anca Lazar and Mrs Aurica Tataru for their help in issuing
the 4th number of this magazine. Thank you for your help and……Merry Christmas ! to everyone.
And a happier new year!
