Texas A&M University Central Texas MGMT 508 – Marketing Management Fall 2014 – online Instructor: Dr. W.D. English Office: Founder’s 318e Phone: 254-541-6348 email: w.english@tamuct.edu wdenglish1@hotmail.com * Do not use Bb for email. Use the email addresses above. For fastest service, send your email to both. * Don’t even try to text me, I will probably never get it. * And please, don’t put me on your LinkedIn group. * But please, do feel free to call. If it ‘rings’, I will pick-it-up and answer it. Office Hours: Because this is an online class...? Again, feel free to call or email. Note: You will need access to Blackboard. Also note: Bb automatically loads several ‘exercises’ to familiarize you with Bb. Bb acts as if I will grade these and you will get points for doing them. In truth, I do not grade these, so you may ignore them if you like. Note also: The computer guru folks tell me that to take the quizzes successfully without the system crashing, it is best to have a direct connection (not Wi-Fi), and no other applications running at that time. TAMU-CT has a computer lab which is free to students, and to my knowledge no student has ever lost connection while taking a quiz in the TAMU-CT computer lab. 1.0 Course Overview Study of the planning and coordination of marketing functions specifically related to product, pricing, promotion, and distribution strategies. Therefore, much attention will be given to the learning of the terms and theories as covered in class, or online. After presentation of the material and an opportunity to review and practice that material, there will be 22 chapter quizzes available online worth 50% of your grade. It is expected that between my chapter notes and the reading of the chapter that the scores on these quizzes will be very high. The format of this class also demands considerable work outside of class. There will be the development of a business case worth 50%. Note that the submission date is November 10th. This will give me time to read over your case and make suggestions for improvement. Just submit your case as a Word file to me. There will be no place for Bb submission as I do not trust Bb to do anything correctly. To save space on this syllabus, the guidelines and suggestions concerning the writing of the business case are posted on Blackboard as a separate file. But for the record, let it be noted that overall writing style, grammar, punctuation and editing will be considered when grading your business case. This is a Masters class, and your writing should be of that quality. There will be some ‘fudge points’ which you can earn from the discussion questions. There will also be two opportunities for student interaction. These are made available as opportunities, but they are not required and they are not graded, but they can result in ‘fudge points’ that can impact your grade. #1. Introduction: All students are encouraged to submit a personal introduction. Possible things to talk about could include your path to being in Killeen and taking this course. It could include details regarding your family, and your plans for the future. Depending upon your technology, you might want to include pictures and/or video. #2. Discussion Board: Occasionally I will throw out a topic for discussion and students can comment. Netiquette: Be gentle, be courteous, and never be rude or personal in your response. 5.0 Grading Requirements 22 chapter quizzes available online worth 50% of your grade.
