To do this we need to develop the relationships and the infrastructure that support our communications and engagement activities, and are looking for a highly organised person with relevant skills to join the EDF team. Job purpose The post-holder will help EDF deliver high-quality work to support our members and the wider voluntary sector, as well as other sectors and the broader public in the area of equality and human rights. The post-holder will do this by supporting the development and maintenance of our information and engagement systems and external communication channels; providing administrative and fundraising support; and running events, often with high-profile speakers. Assist in developing and drafting content for EDF’s websites and social media presence. Compose and distribute EDF’s fortnightly eNewsletter, gathering relevant content from a wide range of sources and promoting key information and resources across the equality and human rights spectrum. Maintain and develop EDF’s database of individuals and organisations. Administration and organisation Provide administrative support to help EDF carry out its work on a day-to-day basis, including organising team and board meetings and maintaining office records. Organise events with support from relevant project leads, including EDF’s regular monthly members’ meetings with high level speakers, and other seminars and conferences. Develop new and innovative ways to improve the operations of the organisation and to create new opportunities. Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities. Projects and funding Provide support on fundraising and project delivery, including assisting with: o researching new funding opportunities, drafting and reviewing proposal documentation, developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, work plans and budgets, and formatting final submissions. o project and grant management cycles, including liaison with project staff and partners, implementation of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, reviewing financial reports and ensuring spending is in line with approved budgets, monitoring income and expenditure, and liaison with funders on contract administration. Team work Work cooperatively and effectively with others, including colleagues who work remotely, to set goals, identify issues and resolve problems. Contribute actively to EDF decision-making and implementation of EDF’s business plan. Person specification Essential 1. A demonstrable commitment to equality and human rights 2. Proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, parliamentarians and their staff, and to provide high quality member support 3. Experience in engaging people and enabling action through use of the web and social media (including experience of Twitter and Facebook, and updating websites, ideally using Wordpress) 4. High level IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint 5. Experience in updating and maintaining databases 6. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, including project administration 7. Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to distil complex information into engaging materials, consistent with EDF’s tone and style 8. Ability to manage own workload and work with limited day-to-day supervision 9. A flexible approach, and the ability to manage and prioritise a diverse workload and meet deadlines 10. Experience of organising and running meetings and events, including organising participants and materials, ensuring disability access, and note-taking 11. Some experience of managing budgets 12. Ability to understand how the values of EDF apply in practice, and ensure that your behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent with the values of the organisation Desirable 1. Experience of fundraising Details of position We are looking to recruit someone to work four days/28 hours per week for a 9 month period. This post is in part providing sabbatical cover for a highly respected colleague who is anticipated will return at the end of her sabbatical. Subject to additional funding being secured this post could be extended. The salary is £22,000 inclusive of London weighting per annum/pro rata (ie £17,600 per annum for four days/week. Annual leave entitlement is 26 days per year pro rata. The post is based at EDF office at Tavis House, 1-6 Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9NA. The office is easy to reach by public transport (bus, train and underground).
