APLICATION REQUEST An International Long Distance Sailing Challenge on Lake Huron. Crew is limited to two persons Yacht sizes range from 24 to 70 feet PHILOSOPHY OF THE CHALLENGE The Huron Challenge is an opportunity to participate in a friendly race - challenge for double handed boats (those sailed with two persons on board) and to rendezvous in scenic Rogers City in northern Michigan. Its aim is to encourage the development of safe and swift offshore passage-making capability with limited crew. Its a great way to get your boat north in the company of others. Awards for all Finishers plus special awards in class. Managed by the Doublehanded Sailing Association Race Committee with the support of SYC, BCYC and Rogers City. Governed by “The Racing Rules Of Sailing 2005-2008” as adopted by USSA and the Sailing Instructions CREW / BOAT ELIGIBILITY Crews range from Husband/Wife, Parent/Child, Best Friends to Hardcore Racers. Entrants must detail their sailing experience. Subject to review. Each entrant (skipper) must have 1000 miles sailing experience as a skipper and must have made one non-stop passage of at least 100 miles under sail, requiring a passage time of not less than 24 hours. Yachts must be well found offshore capable yachts that comply with required equipment list. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: Sarnia Starting Line (Shore Course) From starting line proceed on direct course to the finish line at the Rogers City Harbor. (168 miles) (Goderich Course) From starting line proceed on direct course to Goderich turning mark, leave it to port, then proceed directly to the finish line at Rogers City Harbor. (196 miles) Bay City Starting Line From starting line proceed out of Saginaw Bay direct to finish line at Rogers City Harbor. STRUCTURE OF RACING DIVISIONS Monohulled yachts compete without time allowances as practical, on a boat for boat basis, within each division. Division assignments will be made based upon an estimate of relative speed using the PHRF rating system for guidance. Multihulled yachts will compete within one division using standard handicapping. All Bay City entrants will compete under PHRF rating system. LIMIT OF ENTRIES Because of space restrictions, the Challenge will be limited to 100 entries. The Race Committee reserves the right to admit or refuse any applicant.
