xxxxxxxxx (name) Fifty percent of toxic poisoning is in children under the age of six (U.S. web). Pollution is air, water, light, oil, and solid waste that are harming our environment. Pollution does many terrible things. It harms animals. It also affects people in a negative way. There are also better alternatives that help reduce pollution. People should cut down on pollution. Pollution hurts the animals in our environment. Birds inhale and digest toxic oil in their livers, lungs, and other parts of their bodies. Light pollution hurts birds’ eyesight also. Light pollution confuses baby turtles and they go onto the road instead of going to the ocean. Oil pollution damages fur and feathers of animals. Oil also spills into the birds’ veins and kills them. Pollution also harms people. Light pollution causes people to lose sleep. This makes it harder for people to concentrate. Polluted water causes many deaths because people cannot tell if the water they are drinking is healthy or not. Humans can only go about a week without water (Pollution around web). If more water gets polluted, our country runs the risk of not having enough clean water. There are better alternatives that do not cause as much pollution. You should try to use a bike or even walk to places where it is not necessary to drive a car. You can use energy efficient appliances. Only use your air conditioning when it is necessary. Saving energy also saves you money. If you used a bike to commute four days a week for four miles, you would save fifty-four gallons of gas yearly (Car web). We could cut down pollution in many simple ways. If every commuter car carried one more person, we would save eight billion gallons of gas each year (Car web). There are thirty-seven million gallons in oil spills each year (Pollution around web). In the United States eighty-nine percent of people travel in cars, while only six percent choose to walk (Car web). Just by changing those numbers slightly, we would have a less polluted world. People should surely do more to cut down on pollution. Reason #1 Reason #2 Reason #3 Thesis Statement Works Cited Car Almanac/ Statistics about Pollution, Energy use, and Danger. 2007.
