earliest opportunity as help and support is available with the proposal
preparation and submission.

How do FP7 finances work?
FP7 does not use full economic costing (fec).
Costs are based on actual costs plus a flat rate overhead, which varies
depending on the type of ‘instrument’ or funding source you are applying
under.
All budgets are prepared in €.
When requesting advice and support with submitting an FP7 Project, please
ensure you confirm the following:
o Your role – coordinator, partner or sub-contractor
o The FP7 Call you are applying under and the deadline. This will determine
the type of funding ‘instrument’ you are applying for and the funding rules
applicable – the table below summarises the three main types:

Ineligible Costs:
There is a complete list available, but the main costs that are excluded from
FP7 are:
o PhD fees
o VAT
o Overheads on subcontracts
Is there standard information available?
The following Documentation is available from DRIEO:
o FP7 Procedures 2007 – useful overview of FP7 with links to CORDIS and
UKRO – geared towards collaborative research
o FP7 Budgeting Spreadsheet – DRIEO to provide advice on completion
o DRI Institutional Endorsement Form - All funding applications require
School and Institutional Approval prior to submission to the funder. The

FP7 submission process fails to make provision for both School and
Institutional approval and the Institutional Endorsement Form must be
completed and signed before submission and must be in place before any
FP7 grant is approved.

PIC number – once this is entered most of the standard information should
appear automatically on the A2 form
