Applications for AALL grants
Closing date for 2011 applications

Close of business Wednesday, April 27st 2011.
Eligible uses for AALL grants




AALL grants are available to support projects or activities which further the mission and
goals of the Association (see Attachment 1 below). Note that applications for small
amounts of only a few hundred dollars are quite welcome, with the maximum available
for different types of grant given in the table below.
Type of grant
Maximum amount available
Research and Resource Development Grant
$4,000.00
Professional Development
$2,000.00
Travel to an interstate ALL meeting
$250.00
Grant money can be used to:
 reimburse project/activity coordinators for expenses incurred in running the
project/activity or in producing materials, including justifiable travel and
accommodation expenses;
 pay for the services of non-AALL members (e.g. the presenters of professional
development workshops).
Grant money cannot be used to pay AALL members a personal fee for services rendered,
but could be used to pay an AALL member’s unit for their time.
Examples of projects/activities the Association would be interested in funding include, but
are not limited to:
 the running of professional development workshops which have the potential to
benefit a significant number of AALL members (small amounts of up to a few
hundred dollars could be applied for to support workshops at single institutions, but
larger amounts could be applied for to support regional workshops);
 travel to an interstate ALL meeting where more than just the travelling member would
benefit from the professional interchange;
 the production of professional development materials or other resources which could
benefit AALL members. Web-based materials which could be put on the
Association’s website or circulated to ALL units are of particular interest;
 institutional or cross-institutional research projects which further the mission and
goals of the Association;
 visiting fellowships to foster cross-institutional initiatives which may lead to
outcomes which would benefit a substantial fraction of AALL members. These
fellowships would cover travel expenses and possibly release time from regular
duties.
Eligible applicants
The principal project/activity organiser who applies for the grant must be a member of AALL,
but non-members may be involved in the project or activity supported by the grant.

Grant conditions





Grants can be made out to either the principal applicant’s Unit or to the applicant
themselves, if, for example, the applicant is applying for a travel grant.
Receipts should be kept for all expenses being claimed for.
For professional development activities, the AALL logo must be included with all
promotional materials, together with a statement that the activity is being supported by
AALL. (An AALL logo can be obtained from David Rowland at d.rowland@uq.edu.au)
If any publications arise out of the grant activity/project, the support of AALL must be
acknowledged and publication in either the Association’s journal or on its website should
be considered when appropriate. For quality assurance purposes for AALL supported
publications, it is expected that all publications will either be refereed before publication
(as in the case of a journal article), or submitted in draft form to a panel of experts
convened by the Association for editorial scrutiny and feedback for self-published
materials.
If a presenter is to be paid to present a professional development workshop, the copyright
requirements of their materials needs to be established (e.g. can those materials be
forwarded to AALL members not at the workshop?).
At the completion of the project/activity
Once a funded project or activity is completed:
 a report on the outcomes/achievements of the project/activity must be presented to the
Committee of the Association (see report form below);
 this report must also include a reconciliation of all funds used and any unused portion of
the grant must be returned to the Association.
Interim report
If the project or activity will not be completed by the end of the calendar year in which
funding was received, forward a brief interim report to the Vice-President Siri BarrettLennard siri.barrettlennard.uwa.edu.au by October 31st indicating:
 Current progress;
 Expenditure of funds to date.
