The Workers Prayer
Our Father which art in Newcastle
John Brown is thy name
Give us this day our daily 18/- bob
And forgive us for taking it
As we forgive them that take it from us
Thy will be done in Pelaw Main as it is
in Richmond Main
And lead us not on the paths of intelligence
or action
But deliver us from Starvation
For thine is the power of production
Amen
Written in pencil in a surveyor’s note book, used in Richmond Main Colliery. The verse
dates probably from the 1930’s. The surveyor’s note book is part of the Archives of
Richmond Main Colliery, held in the University of Newcastle Archives.
