RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT.

4(1) (B) (I)

The Govt. General Hospital, Kurnool, was started way back in the year 1911 in the chart of Kurnool Town, as a modest Headquarters

Hospital.

The reorganization of State and location of capital at Kurnool, this Headquarters Hospital was raised to the status of General Hospital with increased bed-strength during 1956. As a consequence, Kurnool Medical College and Govt.General Hospital came into existence from them.

Later, this Teaching Hospital is growing steadily and with starting of Postgraduate Courses in 1961. Thus, became a Post Graduate Teaching

Institution. Subsequently, Superspecialities one after another are started and added to Govt.General Hospital without proportionate increase in bed-strength, building, staff and equipment. Thus, Govt.General Hospital, Kurnool, today has the stature of its own kind of a large teaching

Postgraduate Hospital with Superspecialities.

The Govt.General Hospital, Kurnool, with an official bed-strength of 1000 is catering to the medical needs of all sections of people in particular poverty striken people in not only the Rayalaseema and adjoining districts but also of Karnataka.

With the modernization and advances in Acute Medical Management of seriously ill patients which enable recovery of good number of seriously ill patients. Well equipped critical care unit, Respiratory Care Unit and Intermediate Care Units are successfully established in this

Hospital from January 2003.

Govt.General Hospital, Kurnool, vide G.O.No.18, Dt:18.1.94.

The dream of making this Teaching Hospital as an ideal one on par with other Premier Hospitals or the autonomous Hospitals came true on this day with the opening of the newly constructed Superspecialities Block, with the golden hand of our beloved Hon’ble Minister for

Medical and Health Dr.S.Aruna garu, who has dedicated this to the people of not only Rayalaseema and neighbouring districts of Prakasam,

Most of the Superspeciality Departments are equipped with sophisticated Hi-tech Machinery for the ultimate care and benefit of poor patients of Kurnool and various places. For example, Cardiology Dept; is equipped with Colour Doppler, Echo-Cardiography, Computerised

Treadmill, Holter Monitor, Central Station Monitoring and Angiography. Similarly, the Dept. of Radiology has one 1000 mA X-Ray Machine which is a highly sophisticated one costing Rs.1.00 Crore. Besides this, there are three 500-mA; 700-mA & 300-mA attached to MMR, 60-mA portable X-ray machines and Two Ultrasound Machines.

5

Further, there is one Ultrasound Scanning Machine provided exclusively for the Dept. of Gynaecology and one to the Family

Planning, with addition to Video Operative Laparoscopic equipment to the Department. The Department of Gastroenterology has a Video

Endoscopic Sophisticated equipment. The Dept. of Neuro –Surgery has Operating Microscope. The Dept. of Orthopaedics has the facility of ‘C’

Arm which helps the Surgeons to do some of the latest Orthopaedic Surgical procedures.

G.J.Multiclave units, Hyderabad a treatment facility and as suggested by the AP-Pollution control board, Hyderabad. An Award is received through the C.M of AP on 5.6.2004 in excellence of the management of Bio-Medical waste in this Hospital.
