GOLD COUNTRY RIDERS ETI CORRAL #49 Janean Amos, Editor MAY 2008 D&L RANCH TRAIL TRIAL Our first official ride of the year was a great success! Debbie Lucas put together an awesome trail, with help from ranch owners Dorothy and Lester Scofield and Deb’s husband, Stan. Obstacles included an Uphill/Downhill, Log Drag, Dry Creek Crossing, and a Bridge, among others. The weather wasn’t too hot, and there was plenty of shade along the way. We had a wonderful turnout for a first ride, with 21 competing riders and three companions! We’d like to thank three brand new judges who stepped up to help the club out: Ellen Guenther, who judged the Sidepass obstacle; Rick Guenther, who judged the Downhill/Uphill; and Rick DeFeyter, who judged the Drag. None of these three are “horsey” except by association: Rick D. is Kristin’s husband, and the Guenthers are my mom and stepdad. Thanks again to them! The Scofields provided us with a delicious BBQ lunch after the ride; great job, guys! YUMM! Debbie, pat yourself on the back…you rock! RESULTS: JUNIOR: 1. Caitlen Amos with 21 pts SCHOOLING: 1. BROWNE’S MEADOW RIDE Our next ride is Saturday, June 14 at Browne’s Meadow near Cold Springs. This is a brand new location, so it should be exciting! Maria Hines is handling paperwork, and the Knowles are setting the trail obstacles. After riding a few of their trails, I know this one will be great! Due to the newness of this area, and the eminent fire danger, etc…we are asking that you please respect the property owners’ stipulations: remain on marked trails at all times, keep dogs leashed at all times (or better yet, let them stay home this trip), and absolutely NO SMOKING anywhere on property. This is a beautiful location that we’d like to be able to use again, so let’s put our best hooves forward! Fliers and maps for this ride have been emailed, and are included with this newsletter for those with snail mail. Please call Maria with any questions. POINT PROGRAM—YEAR END AWARDS PROGRAM What is the Point Program? For a mere $20.00 per horse/rider team, you can compete for the chance to win the Champion buckle in your division! You sign up at the beginning of the ride year, and then you just ride! All of your obstacle scores are tracked in the club computer, and the highest score is tossed out at the end of the year. The rest of the scores are tabulated, and lowest scores in each division wins the buckle! There are three different age groups in four ride divisions, so everyone has a chance to place well. Prizes are awarded to fifth place in each division. If you have any questions about this program, please contact one of the board members or ask at the sign-up table at the next ride. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Everybody, grab your cameras! Corral 49 will be having a photography contest this season. Take pictures throughout the ride season at the different rides. These don’t have to be just obstacle pictures; you can take photos back at camp, during awards, during lunch, out on the trail, etc. At the end of the year, pick your best shot, enlarge to 8x10 and frame it. Bring your photo to the awards banquet, where it will be assigned a number. The membership will then vote for their favorite photo. This is also a great opportunity to get some more shots for our website! Send any pics you’d like to see on the site to either caclublambs@gmail.com or brushgoats@gmail.com. Ready, Aim, Smile!!
