Youth Minister
Job Description
Rationale of post
Edmonton Baptist Church, a very active multiethnic (mostly Black Majority) City
Centre Church, requires the services of a full time Youth Minister. The Youth
Minister will provide pastoral cover and spearhead evangelism amongst young
people. The focus of the youth minister will be the preteen, teenage and older
young people (11+).

Hours of work
Normally 37.5 hours per week basis and will include
evenings and weekends.
Salary
£21,200– current Baptist Union Home Mission stipend+
housing
Main responsibilities:
The Youth Minister will take responsibility for the smooth running of all ministries
related to the young people in the Church. This will include the following:
 Provide team leadership over the whole of the young people’s and young
adult ministries.
 The training and deployment of current and new youth workers in the
Church
 The running of regular (weekly) young people’s services, mid-week
activities (Friday Night Extra, Bible Study Group, Drama and Dance Groups)
and other special occasional events
 Provide leadership in viable and credible young people’s evangelistic
programmes with a bias towards the preteen, teenage and young adults
 (11-30 age group).
 Establish mutually beneficial links with local authorities’ youth provision
programmes, and other Christian Youth organisations, e.g. Oasis, N Flame,
CYM, etc
Office Management
 Maintain a working youth office on the Church premises
 Develop, maintain and implement efficient administrative structures for
youth work (duty of care and legal responsibilities, child protection policies,
First Aid, working with volunteers, finance and insurance, Health and
Safety, Copyright law, Data Protection, Counselling young people, Special
young people’s needs and health, Discipline and codes of behaviour, equal
opportunities, planning and preparation, transport, food preparation and
catering, etc)

General responsibilities
 Help with general running of the Church depending on skills and gifts (e.g.
computer skills, etc)
 Attend monthly Deacons and Church members meeting and give reports of
the young people’s work
 Attend the Staff Meeting once a week
 Attend the Baptist Fraternal once a week
 Attend the Elders Meeting once a month
 Develop and provide links between young people at EBC and other young
people’s programmes within the Baptist organisations and more widely
 Attend annual London Baptist Ministers Consultation
 As opportunity arises attend the annual Baptist Union Assembly (May Bank
Holiday weekend)
 Coordinate and teach baptism classes in partnership with other members of
the Leadership team.
 Other duties in agreement with the Lead Minister
Sunday services
 Be present and available to help with the Sunday Clubs as needed
 Take turns to lead and preach in agreement with the Lead Minister
 Organise and or preach at the regular young people’s service
 Conduct two Youth Services a year.
 Provide logistical support for Sunday clubs
Events
 Manage, along with others, all special events, conferences, work parties,
camps, trips, etc.
Oversee and develop teams
 Identifying candidates to join the Youth Team, Young Leaders Team & the
Safeguarding Team.
Essential Qualifications
 A mature Christian with a keen desire to seek the Kingdom of God with a
clear vision for youth work in a Black Majority Church
 Ability to lead young people to Christ and to nurture them in their faith and
to develop their gifts and skills
 Full sympathy and support for the Church’s Statement of Faith and Vision
 Recognizable youth work qualifications
 A good track record in full time Youth work with traceable references both
within the Church and in Para Church organisations
 Ability to work without supervision
 Ability to identify training needs of volunteers and the resources available
 Ability to work in a team
 Self motivation and great enthusiasm for discipling young people
 Excellent communications skills with young people
 UK / EU driving licence
 Police DBS check

Desirable qualifications
 Accreditation with the Baptist Union could be an advantage
 Good computing skills
 A great pastoral heart for young people
 Good appreciation of various genres of youth oriented culture and
especially music
