Joel Pogar is a nationally respected information security consultant, author and expert
media reference. His unique background in law enforcement, business and technology
have enabled him to become one of the top professionals in data security. During his
career, Joel has possessed fourteen different technical certifications and has graduated
from accredited universities with degrees in Criminal Justice and Information Systems
Management. He is an experienced expert witness and has appeared in state and federal
court to testify on issues relating to computer crime.
Currently, Mr. Pogar is the National Practice Manager of Data Security for Siemens
Enterprise Networks, a global provider of real time communications systems. He
continues to provide information security services to Fortune 500 corporations, the legal
industry and several law enforcement agencies throughout the country. He has performed
services for some of the largest information security cases in U.S. history including the
Enron – Andersen litigation of 2001.
Mr. Pogar began his professional career with an Indiana law enforcement agency in 1987.
In July of 1991, he made the decision to leave law enforcement and pursue a high
technology career. He went on to work for some of the top companies in the U.S. to
include Nortel, Amoco Oil, Sprint, Intel and Household International. In 1997, Joel
began focusing his talents exclusively on information security and computer forensics.
By 1999, Joel had opened his own firm and became a nationally respected expert in the
field of information security. In January of 2001, the “Who’s Who" committee
recognized Mr. Pogar as a leader in his field and presented him with a career achievement
award. In addition to his corporate experience, he has provided cybercrime training and
investigative assistance to several law enforcement officers representing federal, state and
local agencies including the U.S. military. Mr. Pogar continues to support the law
enforcement community as a part-time volunteer with the Maricopa County Sheriff
computer crime lab.
Mr. Pogar has provided expert witness testimony for civil litigation involving computer
evidence. He is listed with the National Directory of Expert Witnesses and has served in
the Arizona court system as an expert witness. Because he supports and has worked
closely with many law enforcement agencies, he does not provide criminal defense
services.
Beyond his professional experience, Mr. Pogar has numerous technical certifications. He
currently holds certificates in computer forensics, computer networking, information
security, and has been an instructor as well as a consultant. He has been credited with
many vendor certifications for various security and forensic products. One of his most
significant achievements was receiving the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE
#2801 ret.) designation and the Certified Information Systems Security Professional
(#27226) accreditation. Many of these certifications are difficult to achieve and highly
respected in the industry. They require multiple written tests and practical exams lasting
several hours. Only a handful of people in the world have the experience, certifications
and expertise that Joel has to offer.
Mr. Pogar is an accomplished presenter. He has lectured in a wide variety of forums
including academic, commercial trade shows and private business venues. His
