Please read the following expectations. Once you have read and understood the policies, please print/sign your name at the bottom, and have a parent/guardian read and sign the form as well before returning it to your coach. Students Commitment to the School and Teachers 1. Athletes must be in attendance at school in order to participate in a team game or practice. Any athlete who is absent from school without a valid excuse from a parent will not be allowed to participate in that day’s game. 2. Participation in athletics does NOT take precedence over regular academic school requirements. Team members are expected to maintain acceptable academic and behavioural standings. 3. Athletes are required to let subject teachers know in advance of absences from class as per school policy. Athletes are responsible for making sure that they obtain the class work and/or reschedule any tests and/or quizzes that they may miss as a result of leaving class early for games. 4. A team member is an ambassador of Fleetwood Park and is expected to display a high standard of behaviour and attitude. This includes treating school property with respect, displaying courteous behaviour on and off the playing field, and displaying an appropriate behavior in the community at large after school hours. Students engaging in behaviour that is counter to these standards will face discipline from the Fleetwood Park Athletic Discipline Committee. 5. Athletes are not to use social media to post, publish or submit any of the following: a. Material that contains vulgar, obscene or indecent language or images. b. Material which defames, abuses, or threatens others. c. Statements that are bigoted, hateful or racially offensive. Posts which are deemed inappropriate will result in disciplinary actions which may include suspension and/or expulsion from a school team and/or school discipline. Students Commitment to Coaches and Players 1. Student athletes are required to be at all practices and games. If there is a good reason why an athlete is unable to attend, then it is the responsibility of the athlete to notify the coach as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made. It is the responsibility of the student athlete to make themselves aware of upcoming practices, games, and team events. Missing a team commitment due to a lack of awareness is not acceptable. 2. If a student athlete commits to a team, he/she must complete the season. Any athlete who quits a team is subject to a possible suspension from any future sports teams at Fleetwood Park Secondary. 3. All athletes will receive a team uniform from the school. The uniform must be returned in good condition at the end of the sport season. An athlete who returns a uniform that is damaged, or fails to return the uniform will be charged a subsequent replacement cost. Commitment from Coaches 1. Treat players and opponents with respect. 2. Inspire a love of the game and a desire to compete fairly. 3. Appropriately discipline/reprimand those on the team who display unsportsmanlike behaviour. 4. Remember that the athletic area is a classroom, with moral and legislative obligations required of the coach at all times. Commitment from Parents. 1. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices. 2. I will respect the officials and their authority during games 3. I will not confront coaches at the game court or field. I will wait for 12 hours and attempt to contact the coach through appropriate means (email, telephone). 4. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the student athletes. 5. I will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players’ coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice or sporting event. 6.
