Tests and Quizzes – To evaluate student learning, at the beginning and end of each unit, students will be given an exam in order to test for pre and post learning. During the unit two quizzes will be given (1 open book quiz and 1 pop quiz) and a chapter test. Students will be informed of the quiz and test dates ahead of time with the exception of the pop quiz. If a TEST or QUIZ i s missed the student must approach the instructor upon their return to class and schedule a makeup. If this is not done the student will receive a ZERO for the missed test or quiz.

Notebooks : Students are expected to maintain a science notebook. In their notebooks, students will be responsible for defining chapter key terms, copying and answering chapter notes and study guides, and writing a 1-page journal entry for each chapter. Other items may be included in the notebook at the discretion of the teacher and the students.

The notebook will be collected and checked on Chapter Test Days. By this day, students should have completed all notebook requirements for that chapter (ex. Key terms, notes, etc.)

Participation: Students are expected to participate intelligently and positively in class activities and discussions. The participation grade is designed to reward those who follow the rules and help create an environment conducive to learning. Tardiness and “cuts” will result in a loss of participation credit.
