OPEN HOUSES
Exploring College Options with Duke University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Penn
State University, and Stanford University will take place on Sunday, September 12th at the Greenville

SC Help Johnny Scholarship is a $5000 scholarship awarded to a high school senior that is under the age
of 19 years old as of October 25th. This scholarship is provided by StudentScholarships.org which provides

The Horatio Alger Scholarship deadline is October 30, 2010. Applicants must be a senior planning to
pursue a Bachelors Degree, show financial need, have at least a 2.0 GPA, and be involved in co-curricular

Teaching Fellows offers students $24,000 over four years to become a SC educator. If you plan to major in
education in college and teach in SC, students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Applications

The Mesothelioma Memorial Scholarship is awarded for times a year to seniors planning to attend a 4

The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program has opened the on-line scholarship application for the 2010
selection process. Applicants must be a senior who is African American, American Indian/Alaska Native,
Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American. Applications can be found at www.gmsp.org

February 1, 2011 is the deadline for the United States Institute of Peace Essay Contest. This contest is
open to grades 9 – 12 and will award up to “50” $1000 state scholarships and a grand prize of a $10,000

Apply online now for the Watson Brown Scholarship. Awards will be given to SC and Georgia students

American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2000. Read an online
essay and take a multiple-choice test. Apply online at www.afsascholarship.org/

Scholarships.com offers several scholarships ranging to $1000. Seniors would need to register and

Columbia College offers several scholarships to students: Founders Scholarship – full tuition for students
scoring between a 1300-1600 on SAT; Presidential Scholarship - $48,000 over four years for students
scoring 1180-1290 on SAT; and Trustee Scholarship - $40,000 over four years for students scoring 10201170 on SAT. Additional scholarships are available to students majoring in music or art.

Wendy’s High School Heisman will be awarded to one male and one female senior athlete. Senior
athlete’s must have at least a 3.0 GPA to compete. Please see Mrs. Tucker in Guidance to pick up a

If you have made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1000
and a trip to Washington, DC through the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Fill out an

Nestle Very Best In Youth would like to recognize youth (ages 13-18) that are making a positive

The SC Governor’s School for the Arts will be at Chesnee High School on September 30th. Please contact

The SC Governor’s School for Science and Math will be taking applications starting October 1st.
Students apply to GSSM during their sophomore year, and if accepted, attend their junior and senior years
of high school at the Hartsville, SC location. See Mrs. Tucker in Guidance for more information on the SC

The Academic Common Market allows for South Carolina residents who are enrolled in specific
programs at public out-of-state institutions to be charged only the applicable in-state tuition by the
institution in which the student is enrolled. The most up to date listing of programs for SC residents can be

Potential College Bound Athlete’s are encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss
NCAA Clearinghouse requirements for collegiate sports. CHS wants to ensure all
students and parents understand the academic requirements for sports eligibility at the
college level.
