How some of the best stories and funniest moments have come out of the break-ups and breakdowns? To celebrate real friends, and the stories that bind them forever, we’ve teamed up with Academy Award® winning short filmmaker, Joachim Back, and created two cinematic films – Here’s to Big Bear and Here’s to Twinkle. Here’s to Big Bear In Here’s to Big Bear we find our four friends stranded at a train station in the middle of nowhere. Suited, booted and stranded in the desert in black tie, they begin an interesting journey that finally leads them to an awkward moment with Big Bear. Here’s to Twinkle The second film, Here’s to Twinkle, tells of the time when the friends came together to support Sammy during a bad break-up. They share stories, reflect on the good times and, to their surprise, toast the arrival of Twinkle. Discover the full story online on YouTube. It pays homage to the smooth style of blending our founding brothers pioneered then brings it firmly into the 21st century with blending and design that appeals to today’s modern gentleman. Revive the Brothers’ Blend story > Strathisla subpage Wireframe Sub-page Content [Image] TBC [Left hand copy] Welcome to our spiritual home 13 Strathisla was built in Speyside in 1786, in the broad valley plains of the River Spey. It’s set in a beautiful, wild place with a unique micro-climate. The pure, natural Spey spring water is an essential ingredient in the smooth, rich and mellow single malts that are produced at Strathisla while the sea air enhances the conditions of the spirits as they mature. At the heart of Chivas Regal lies a Speyside Pure Highland Malt, described by Colin Scott as "an extraordinary whisky with a mature and balanced character, with good heavy flavours, a complex array of hay-like aromas and a slightly dry oakiness. The finish has a smooth mellowness and pleasant nuttiness." This is blended with hand-selected Scottish malt and grain whiskies to give Chivas its unique, generous taste. Visit Strathisla Come and join us at Strathisla. We’ll show you round our distilleries, tell you all about the art of blending and, needless to say, we’ll round off the visit with a wee dram of Chivas. Making Chivas sub-page Wireframe Content Sub-page [Image] TBC The art of blending Chivas, Chivas Regal 18 Year Old, Chival Regal 25 Year Old and Chivas Brothers’ Blend each has its own unique combination of whiskies, giving every blend its own distinct flavour. For whisky to legally become Scotch, its spirits must be matured for at least three years. Not ours. To create the complex, smooth Scotch Whisky in every bottle of Chivas Regal, we mature our spirits for at least twelve. Once matured, the Master Blender’s skill is in harmonising the characters and flavours of selected malt and grain Scotch whiskies to produce blended Scotch whiskies of the highest possible quality. As Colin Scott describes it, "The art of blending whisky is like the work of a composer: not only do you need to completely understand the musical characteristics of every instrument, but you must also 14 understand how to combine them to build an unforgettable, spellbinding symphony." When selecting individual whiskies Colin doesn’t just look for their own unique characters and flavours, but also whether they have been matured in Sherry casks or American oak barrels, each of which influences the character and colour of the spirit. The craft of blending ensures the same high quality and consistency of character and flavour today and for many generations to come. Colin Scott Wireframe Content Sub-page [Image] Colin Scott has a job most whisky lovers could only dream of. As our Master Blender he has ultimate responsibility for the world's most prestigious whisky. Colin is the guardian of our signature Chivas Regal style - but he’s also created compelling new expressions of the Chivas essence, hand-selecting and hand-blending the new Chivas 18 and Chivas 25 blends. It could be said that he was predestined for the role, having been born into a family where three generations were involved in whisky making. He even grew up among the Orkney distilleries. Colin joined Chivas in 1973, learning the trade under the previous blender Jimmy Laing and achieved the coveted post of Master Blender in 1989. Colin has a rare combination of experience, creativity and technical skill – three attributes that are essential to his role as Master Blender. He has wide experience of the whisky industry, and is able to store the aromas of thousands of individual spirits whiskies for decades. He also has the imagination to conjure new expressions, and the technical skill to know exactly when each whisky will reach its perfect maturity. Crucially, he has the vision to nose a new spirit, and is able to project its character in decades to come. Timeline Wireframe 1801 Content 1801 James and his brother John’s food emporium in Aberdeen gains a reputation for supplying the highest quality goods and malt whiskies. 16 1840s 1843 1850s 1860 1880 1909 1920 1938 1960 1997 2001 1840s James Chivas begins to lay down casks of fine Scotch whisky in the shop's cellar to mature for his aged blends. 1843 James Chivas and his business partner Charles Stewart are awarded the first of many Royal Warrants by Queen Victoria to supply goods and provisions to the Royal Household. 1850s James and John Chivas combine soft grain whisky and robust single malts to create Blended Scotch whiskies that are smooth, rich and generous. 1860 The Spirit Act confirms blending as an established technique, giving credence to the quality of James’ handiwork and making blended spirits far more commercially attractive. 1880 French vineyards are devastated by an epidemic of the phylloxera insect, thereby crippling supplies of wine, brandy, port and sherry. Discerning wine drinkers turn to Chivas as a high quality alternative. 1909 Chivas Regal is launched as the world's first luxury whisky. The 25year-old luxury blend, created for the sophisticated palates of America's East Coast high society, swiftly wins international following and within months, demand outstripped supply. 1920 The impact of the First World War and the subsequent Prohibition era result in Chivas Regal 25 Year Old disappearing from view, to become a highly sought-after collectors’ item. 1938 A new premium blend is debuted - Chivas Regal 12. First shipped to the US in 1938 it wins Americans over virtually overnight, capturing the spirit of exuberance and renewed appetite for life at the heart of the 'Rat Pack' era. 1960 The smooth honeyed flavours and consistently high quality of Chivas Regal continue to win fans across the world over the next few decades. Supported by iconic advertising in the New Yorker magazine, Chivas is well on its way to becoming a global icon. 1997 Master Blender Colin Scott creates a multi-award-winning new blend: Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Gold Signature. This super premium scotch - deep, complex and exceptionally rich - is a unique blend crafted in the Chivas Regal house style. 2001 Chivas Regal is purchased by Pernod Ricard Group but whilst ownership changes, the Chivas Regal style, flavour, and quality remain consistent thanks to the skill of the Master Blender, Colin Scott, who keeps the Chivas brothers' vision alive. 17 2007 2007 Nearly a century after the debut of the world's first luxury whisky, the limited-release Chivas Regal 25 Year Old Original returns. A credit to decades of careful maturation and the unquestionable art of our Master Blender. 18
