Context
The British Red Cross is the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It
promotes humanitarian values, and provides emergency help to people in short-term crisis in the
UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through 33,000 volunteers and
2,500 staff.
Our success in making a difference to the communities in which we operate is dependent on the
Society’s ability to deliver effective IS/IT services. A major project is now underway to
implement the latest phase of a CRM system, which will record and manage the interactions and
service outcomes for all those the organisation works with in the UK. The implementation of the
Beneficiary Relationship Management (BRM) system is one of a number under the
organisation’s overall Strategic change Programme, which will revolutionise how the
organisation’s staff and volunteers work and how they interact with those they help.
Scope
This is a new post which will head up one of eight workstreams within the BRM Project. Several
services the organisation offers in the UK are already using the Microsoft Dynamics based BRM

platform, and the Technology Workstream Lead will be responsible for successfully extending
the solution for use by all services. The Technology workstream will be responsible for
analysing, developing, testing and going live with a new generic CRM solution for UK Operations
staff. It will also be responsible for the mapping and migration of two existing case management
systems into the single new solution.
Overall Purpose of the Post
The post holder is accountable for the successful delivery of a generic CRM solution which
meets all business requirements. They will be responsible for directly line managing a number
of technology and data specialists, whilst also managing an outsourced team working on a
specific component. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and delivering on a
number of tasks to agreed timescales, and working with their fellow Workstream Leads to
ensure the technology solution is fit for purpose in all aspects. The post holder will work closely
with the Project Manager and other governance staff to ensure risks are identified and mitigated
against early on. They will ensure the highest standards are met in terms of system usability,
speed, consistency of design and quality of migrated data.
Main responsibilities and duties

Establish a robust and clear method for identifying, defining, tracking, testing and delivering
CRM software functionality.

Accurately assess the time and resource requirements needed to deliver an ongoing flow of
new functionality, whilst continually improving estimate accuracy as the knowledge of
requirements and team performance grows.

Enable solid, auditable processes are in place to identify, cleanse and migrate legacy system
data to the new single solution.

Understand the business requirements provided by other Project workstreams and ensure
these are translated into suitable technical designs.

Ensure objective, technically achievable requirements are specified for development staff to
work from.

Ensure rigorous, demonstrable processes are in place for both new functionality and
regression testing.

Monitor all IT workstream tasks, taking continual corrective actions to ensure delivery to time
and quality standards. Escalate any risks identified to the Project Manager and/or to the
Head of Technology projects, with options to mitigate the risk presented.

Work closely with staff within the Operations and Quality, Information Management and
Training workstreams, to ensure new CRM functionality meets overall project requirements
and aligns with the existing BRM platform.

Work with business as usual support teams to successfully migrate functionality and data
into live use.

Working closely with technical staff in particular with Business Analyst, Developer, Data
Manager and Test Manager, ensuring all allocated tasks are completed successfully and to
time. Line management of a small outsourced team tasked specifically with delivering the
core CRM component.

