Spanish Grades 7 & 8 Acquisition Lesson Plan for Weather Capitulo Para Empezar Essential Question How do you describe the weather and seasons in Spanish? Activating Strategies: (Learners Mentally Active) Students will brainstorm ways to describe the weather in English. Acceleration / Previewing: (Key Vocabulary) Spanish vocabulary for weather Teaching Strategies: (Collaborative Pairs; Distributed Guided Practice: Distributed Summarizing; Graphic Organizers) 1. Teacher will introduce vocabulary using pictures and gestures 2. Students will use a graphic organizer to place the words from their brainstorming into appropriate seasons in English. Then they will add the Spanish words for weather and season to the graphic organizer. 3. Listening to a script, students will correctly identify the season being described. 4. Students will correctly write down Spanish vocabulary when dictated 5. Teacher will introduce ¿Qué tiempo hace…? , Hace …, and ¿En qué estación hace …? 6. Students will take turns identifying vocabulary words from calendars 7. Students will work in Think-Pair-Share to complete Practice Workbook pg. 9, Writing Workbook pg. 6 and Guided practices pgs. 19 – 24 8. Students will track the weather for one week 9. The teacher will introduce the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and differences in seasons 10. Teacher will introduce Fahrenheit and Celsius 11. Teacher will introduce ¿Hace calor?, Hace calor, ¿Hace frío?, and Hace frío. Distributed Guided Practice / Summarizing Prompts: (Prompts designed to initiate periodic practice or summarizing) 1. Using flash cards, students will work with partners to ask each other about the weather and the seasons 2. Working with a partner, students will use the weather information they tracked to prepare a weather report using days, dates and weather vocabulary 3. Students will discuss temperatures and Hace calor or Hace Frío. (Actividades 5 – 6 pg. 21) Summarizing Strategies: (Learners Summarize & Answer Essential Question) Ticket out the door Write a sentence describing the weather today. Write down two weather words you didn’t use in your sentence. Write down how you would ask about the weather in Spanish.
