Field studies, mostly in developing countries, working primarily with ectoparasitic infestations and bacterial and fungal infections. Conducting of clinical trials on antifungals, pediculicides and scabicides. Development and testing of in-vitro methodology for determining pediculicidal and ovicidal efficacy and pesticide resistance in insect vectors. Epidemiological surveys,

Research Assistant

University of Miami School of Medicine

Department of Nephrology

The study of proteinuria as the major abnormality of renal function in the diabetic rat as well as in human patients, primarily through the use of SDS-

PAGE gel electrophoresis.

1980 Research Assistant

University of Miami School of Medicine

Department of Microbiology & Immunology

Marine microbiology research which concentrated on corrosion and the role of various marine bacteria, prevalent in a biofouling environment, which are capable of attaching to metals and can, therefore, enhance or reduce the corrosion process (Navy Grant). Autopsies on manatees (to determine boat propeller size to cause death) and stranded whales to determine the cause of death and also collection of all of their parasites for identification (Florida

Fish & Wildlife Grant). Teaching HPLC and media preparation classes to graduate students.

1979 Research Assistant

University of Miami School of Medicine

Department of Oncology

Pharmacological cancer research on a glutamine-dependent cell surface, transfer enzyme and its inhibition by an experimental chemotherapy agent, a glutamine antagonist. These studies were carried out by utilizing human pancreatic, breast, and lung tumor cells grown in vitro , and also human tumor surgical specimens, including brain tumors, estrogen - and + breast, small and large cell lung carcinomas, i.e.

1974-1979 Research Assistant

Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts

Department of Radiology

Research in the areas of both Oncology and Nephrology using radiology as an experimental tool. Tumor blood flow, antimitotic chemotherapy agents, experimental diagnostic imaging agents, and tumor angiogenesis factors were studied in tumor-bearing animals through the use of radioactive microspheres, flouroscopy, magnification angiography, xenon washout, CT body scanning and electromagnetic flow probes. Hypertension was studied using converting enzyme inhibitors, beta-blockers, and angiotensin II antagonists in kidney donors, clinical trials and in animal models.

( TAF studies were done with Dr.

Folkman at Childrens’ Hospital/a recent Nobel Price winner for this TAF work).
