Attended the 4th Anniversary Kickoff Breakfast for
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. This program is

Black Expo presented by Black Pages, USA at the
Virginia Beach Convention Center, in Virginia Beach.
The focus this year was the Power of E—E-Commerce,
Energy, Education and the Environment. More than
200 local businesses attended as vendors, more than
4,000 people attended. Also participated on the
advisory council for this event. CW 27 was the media
sponsor, therefore, we had a booth with great visibility
to let everyone know that we are partners with the
community.

Attended the Fifth Annual 2009 Hampton Roads
Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards. This was
presented by Bank of America to honor outstanding
organizations, local citizens, and students who are
working in the community to create a better Hampton
Roads. Norfolk

Completed the annual United Way of South Hampton
Roads fundraising campaign. Exceeded our $3,000
goal by raising $3,690 (123% of goal). We had 25%
employee participation; 2 Keel Club Members & 1
Navigator’s Society Member. (Last year we raised
$4,606).

Delivered dictionaries and CW 27 pencils to all of the
third grade students at Churchland Elementary School.
This was a part of the Portsmouth Rotary’s annual
Dictionary Project which hand-delivers dictionaries to

Meeting and Awards Ceremony at the Chrysler

Achievement Award. Also, a clip of “Here & Now on

Participated in the 15th Annual Santa Claus Shuffle (1
Mile Fun Run and 5k Race) which benefit Tidewater
Youth Services Foundation; an organization which
helps at-risk and delinquent youth become contributing

Spoke to Oscar Smith Middle School students who are
a part of the AVID Program (Advancement Via
Individual Determination) which is a college-readiness
system designed to increase the number of students
who enroll in four-year colleges. We discussed
expectations, college, goals and career choices.

Presented the Second Annual CW 27 Health & Fitness
Expo which took place at the Norfolk SCOPE, 201
East Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia. This free
expo was a one-stop shop for all health and fitness
needs and concerns. It also featured free and
discounted health screenings such as EVMS Sight
Savers, blood pressure and spinal checks, Red Cross
blood drive and live demonstrations such as salsa
dance, karate and Zumba. In addition, there were
special guest appearances by national celebrities Judge
Alex, host of “Judge Alex” and Mitch English,
weatherman from “The Daily Buzz”.

Attended the South Hampton Roads Pan-Hellenic
Council 29th Annual Awards Banquet and was awarded
the Unsung Hero Award for Community Service.

The station sponsored Paint Your Heart Out! Day
which is presented annually by the Rotary Clubs of
South Hampton Roads. It is one of Virginia's largest
grass roots volunteer projects of its kind, a one-day
community beautification project. On paint day,
community volunteers meet at their city’s designated
spot and receive their home assignments. Then, each
paint team consisting of 30-35 volunteers disperse to
their home assignments throughout South Hampton
Roads to paint the exterior of homes and clean the
yards of elderly and/or handicapped homeowners.
Since this annual community service project began in
1992, over 750 homes in the Hampton Roads area have
been painted at no expense to the homeowner.

Moderated 14th Annual Project Inclusion Leadership
Development Program Hampton Roads Citizen’s
Board Governance Forum held at the Norfolk
Workforce Development Center. The panel discussed
“Give Back to Your Community—Become a Member
of a Local Board or Commission. This is a United Way
