Executive Cabinet Meeting Minutes
Sunday, September 21st 2008 8pm, Canal Room.
The following Cabinet members were present: Jibran Muhammad, Danny Barefoot,
Morgan McDowell, Solle Taghavi, Neeru Goyal, Jenn Darkazalli, Gabriel Walker, Jay
Knight, Sanjay Iyer, Roberto Celis, Megan Goldshine, Melissa Philips & Kanwar Singh.
Visitors in Attendance: Gonzalo Aida. Absent Cabinet members: Supreet Sahai, Jenny
Furnoff, Justin Green, Brandon Dube, Leah Fremouw, Winter Foddrell, & Eddie
Brunson.
I. Weekly Icebreakers – Staff Development

Share 2 highs and 1 low for your week to create a “sandwich”.
II. Old Business
1. Timecards
 Due September 23rd to Eddie Brunson.
2. Progress Reports
 Post on the Forum every week, Saturday by noon.
3. Cabinet Member of the week
 Kanwar – Outstanding job on website, elections, and work for SGA.
4. Agenda
 Ideas for agenda need to be emailed to Morgan before Wednesday morning.
III. Updates
1. Jibran – Presidential Update
 300 people are needed to work the polls on Election Day.
 $100 per person will be given for working the polls – can give to
organization, keep for themselves or use for a party.
 Registar will write a note for students to get out of class.
 Anyone with ideas for Rams Madness?
2. Solle – Presidential Roundtables
 Next Monday Sept. 29th at 7pm is the Presidential Roundtable.
 Great opportunity to reach out to the community.
 Email Solle any ideas/topics to put for discussion.
3. Raymond – Senate Update
 Open discussion about Rams Madness last week – Dr. Reed wants ideas.
 Contact made for bussing people to the polls, only for Section 8 housing.
 Alumni involvement discussed with Gordon McDougal
 Good contact for SGA to have, very connected to community.
 Co-sponsor event with SGA – willing and wanting to help us. Ideas for
the event discussed such as planting trees for alumni, etc.
 Take a cabinet member to lunch-date with senate.
4. Kanwar – Elections & Technology
 Forums are being replaced this week – Send postings directly to Kanwar.
 Elections
 27 applications for senate received. Sent out emails to get more responses.
 Election booths discussed by Election committee – could solve student
intimidations.
 Laptops can be set-up in the commons but senators can not be within 30
feet of voting – university procedures.
 Letter of intent must accompany application if turned in after Monday;
deadline for all packets is Friday.
5. Gabe – Student Affairs
 Mr. Ussle – working on maps of bike racks.
 $56,000 worth of bike racks and scooter racks will be in place.
 Contacted Norwood Teague about Rams Madness- Basketball team is too
busy?
6. Leah/Winter/Morgan – External Affairs
 Leah’s Anniversary with her husband is tonight!
 Fan committee contacted and connecting with Ms. Thompson to coordinate
rides to the polls.
7. Justin – Communications
8. Roberto – Major Projects & Green Campus
 25 outdoor recycling bins are in place.
 More staff has been added to the sustainability department.
 Solar panels are on the sides of Bowe Street parking deck.
 Bio Tour will be in VA October 21st-28th and cost $1500 to come to VCU.
9. Megan – Development
 Suggested to the Commonwealth Times to place Senate and Cabinet profiles
in the paper to create SGA awareness.
 Cabinet board- up and posted.
 Looking for a deputy to reflect ideas – prefer Mass Communications or Art
majors – tell anyone interested to Contact Megan about the open position.
10. Jay – Political Affairs
 Attended Virginia 21 & Democracy 101 event on Saturday.
 300 people are need to work the polls - 5-9, will be an excused absence.
 Jay has Applications and information about training sessions.
 Receive $100 + T-Shirt!
 Number needed based off of location and locality.
 AARP – older people/retirement company.
 Would like to get VCU students signatures on cards for awareness of
healthcare/investments.
 Before signing BEWARE: AARP is usually non-partisan but they have
not chosen a side.
11. Jenn – Secretary & Office
 Contact Jenn if you need office supplies or the canal room/commons tables.
 SGA social being planned with Senate Vice President.
12. Morgan – SGA Affairs
 Be on-time next week because Gordon McDougal will be joining us.
 At large delegates are needed right now, only 35 senate seats are full.
 October 2nd at 10am the new Barnes & Nobles store manager is looking for
SGA member to attend to show Ram Spirit.
 Joint Committee meeting - still debating over stoles and t-shirts.
 Contact Morgan to participate in Into the Streets & Brunswick dinner.
IV. New Business

Be at the Commons by 8:30am for breakfast if you are going to volunteer at the Food
Bank on Saturday September 27th. Wear close toed shoes and long pants.
V. Mark your Calendars
September 27th 8:30am-12pm – Into the Streets Volunteer – Meet in Commons.
October 18th –Brunswick Camp-out at Morgan’s, RSVP. BYOB (21+) and bring a dish.
Things to remember to do this week:

Turn in timesheets to Eddie by Tuesday, Sept. 23rd.

Try to make a lunch-date with a Senator or stop by a Senate meeting.

Send Progress Reports to Kanwar by Saturday at Noon, forum will be down.

Contact Jibran or Jay if you would like to work the polls on Election Day.

Contact Danny, Jibran, or Jay to volunteer to register students to vote this week.

Email Solle ideas/topics for discussion at the Presidential Roundtable.

If you are in need of any office supplies or the Canal room, contact Jenn.

Contact Morgan to participate in Into the Streets or the Brunswick dinner party.

Spread the word to friends about SGA needing delegates, a Deputy of
Development, and workers for the polls.
