French Revolution (DBQ)
This document is the “Declaration of Rights of Man and Cultures.”
This declaration was created by the National Assembly to ensure equality,
liberty, and brotherhood of France. The purpose of this document was to
establish that all people are equal and therefore laws should apply to every
citizen. The consequences by this declaration include the shift of power
and a society where all people are treated equally. It also enhanced
Republic ideals.
During the French Revolution, the king passed laws that favored
mainly the _______ of France, ________ the great nobles ________ clergies.
Such laws sometimes freed the 1st and 2nd estates(?) from tax and more
rights such as the freedom of speech. The declaration ______ actions
prohibited by the king, such as freedom of press, and states that all
citizens are equal. It also outlines (?) that “men are born and remain free
and equal in rights,” which means that all laws apply to all citizens,
including tax, which was one of the 3rd estates main grivences__(?)..
It was also to limit the king’s power. The king abused his power and often
lead to unfair judgments. The king also did not have the right to pass any
laws he wants.
As a result of this document, the power shifted from the king to the
National Assembly. Court trials were not held by the unfair administrator of
the king but by the people. The king was now a symbol and did not hold
the actual power. The king was also just one of the many citizens of
France. France also became liberal, by the fact that their decisions and
actions were all taken by vote. It limits the King’s power, now that the
declaration states that property cannot be taken away and the king could
only propose laws that benefit the whole. The estates no longer existed
because they were all equal citizens of France. Republic ideals were legally
allowed and became popular amongst the favor (?) class for they to
decided the _____ of France.
This document is the first step towards abolishing monarchy and
the government runs by the nation, not by a monarch. It serves the
purpose of restating (?) the king’s powers, establishing all citizens are
equal, and that laws apply to every citizens. Because of this document, the
power is transferred from the king to the National Assembly. All people
were treated equal and Republic ideals were supported by the public.
