Supervisor: Dr. John Carlson, Ph.D.
· Collected from the field, prepared (paraformaldehyde fixation), and distributed
Liriodendron tulipifera samples in cooperation with The University of Florida
· Performed genomic assays (dot-blotting) and prepared slides via microtome cutting and
paraffin embedding
· Oversaw maintenance, care, and access to a transgenic greenhouse, monitored plant
mineral levels and overall health over a two-year period
PSU Christmas Tree Micropropagation Project Supervisor: Abdoulaye Traore, Ph.D.
· Cloned and propagated field-obtained gymnosperm tissue, sterilely dissected and
transferred tissue cultures, prepared sterile media and culled infected buds
