Procedures:
1. Watch “Pendemonium: The Italian Job” on www.unitedstreaming.com. It discusses
prefixes, roots, and suffixes in an easy to understand manner.
2. Have students complete the Prefix Sheets (below) as a warm-up (DOL). When
students are finished, review the paper with them. Check for understanding.
3. Thirdly watch the PowerPoint on Prefixes:
a. Discuss what each prefix means by putting up the pre-made prefix cards on
the board. While discussing the prefixes, allow students to help with the
definition and example.
4. Next, pass out the computer paper and instruct students on how to fold the paper so it
has a total of 12 boxes. Label the top two boxes with the header “Prefix: beginning of
a word”. Label the next ten boxes with the prefixes listed below. Have students write
the prefix, meaning, and an example.
5. Lastly, complete the activity/online game at the end of the PowerPoint.
6. When students finish the PowerPoint activity, allow them to go online and play a
prefix game at www.quia.com/jg/66094.html.
