Club Meeting: 10am-2pm Report from annual conference Newsflash from Western North Carolina Conference!!!!! Stuart Auditorium is now fully air conditioned! The business of the church was conducted in a much more comfortable environment with the reprieve from the June heat. The theme of the conference was “Inspire the Living Faith”. In recognizing that faith without works is dead, we were encouraged to be missional churches…to go beyond the walls of the church, go into the community/world and spread the love and gospel of Jesus Christ. This was strongly emphasized every day in every service and meeting. Bill Wyman, who is retiring, was recognized for his 19 years of service as conference treasurer. Jennifer Burton was elected as the new treasurer effective June 1, 2011. Also, a budget of $14,353,102 was approved for the coming year. This is a reduction from last year’s budget. The proposal to reduce the number of districts from 15 to 8 was approved. This will enable a savings of $1,500,000 annually. Bishop Goodpaster will begin the process of redrawing the district boundaries. This new re-districting should be fully implemented by January 1, 2013. The Denman Award for Evangelism is given to people who exemplify the highest ideals of Christian Discipleship. Nominated by his peers, the clergy award was presented to Jamie Hamrick of Rocky Mount UMC. Please offer him your congratulations for a well deserved recognition. Sunday, July 24 Outreach Meeting at 5:30pm At the services during the conference, 39 men and women were commissioned as provisional members, with one associate member. Our July/August mission project will be school supplies for the Shepherd School 5th grade classes. This year the school is asking five churches in the area to sponsor one grade each. Vanderburg has been asked to help the 5th grade. With the budget cuts in our school system, the county is only providing $50 per grade. Shepherd School has four 5th grade classes, equating to $12.50 per classroom for supplies. The list below seems massive; however, these items would supply each of the four classrooms with needed items for the year. Granted, some students can afford to purchase their own supplies, but there are many families who live below the poverty level and cannot afford the tools for their child’s education. If you would prefer to give a cash donation I will be happy to purchase the items for you. Please place the items in the box in the narthex. Teachers spend so much out of pocket money for snacks, treats, etc. Let’s see what we can do to make a significant impact toward this need. 100 two inch three ring binders 100 five subject spiral notebooks 100 one subject spiral notebooks 100 sets of dividers with pockets 200 pkgs. Club Meeting: 10am-2pm Buddy network Members of our Vanderburg family; do you have a passion for a hobby or a craft, do you like to chat and encourage, are you a particular team’s ultimate fan, do you have a taste for reading or exploring? If you answered YES to any of these questions and you would like to be “buddied up” with a youth member, I would like to encourage you to contact me. This acquaintance between you and the youth member will be multi layered. First it will be another adult that they connect with. Someone other than their parents or teacher that encourages them and remind them of what they need to be doing. It will be a way for you to get to know their world. This could take up as much or as little time as you have. A Facebook or e-mail check in, a card on their birthdays and maybe a wave at church. Through this we hope that you can talk about your worship and prayer styles and habits and share life truths. Please pray about this project and if you are already in such a relationship with a youth or child, please share it with me. Thanks again for your partnership in ministering to our youth. -Charmaigne Sunday, July 24 Rick’s Ride Ice Cream Supper: 5pm-6:30pm Outreach Meeting at 5:30pm Monday, July 25 Blood Drive: 3:30pm-7pm Every Tuesday Prayer Study at 10am Middle School Youth at 6pm Every Wednesday Confirmation Class at 4:30pm Worship Team Practice from 5:00pm-6:00pm Youth Group at 6:00pm Choir Practice at 7:00pm 8 Mills Family Farm Horse Show Sponsors Please remember to support our horse show sponsors listed below.
