Anthro 1 Poem/Song Hall of Fame, Part 1, Fall 2012

Mutation
Change in DNA
Not always detrimental
Can be so helpful
A point mutation
One nucleotide diff’rence
Can be your savior
Mosquitos present
Sickle cell trait as poor host
Can’t get malaria
Faulty Hbs
Called Incomplete dominance
When it is resorbed

We know if humans are still going through
evolution,
Through the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium
equation.
There must be a change in allele frequency,
We know by algebra, not through chiromancy.
Survival of the fit is natural selection,
This requires variation.
Change in DNA is mutation,
Like sickle cell there is alteration.
Gene flow introduces variations,
Like rock stars between populations.
Genetic drift has less variation,
With traits not having fluctuation
In assortative mating we have a preference,
It decreases variation by mate avoidance.
Now we found our solution:
Homo sapiens are still going through
evolution.

Language
Communication
What can make it real language?
Symbols and meanings
Arbitrary? Yes.
If between word and meaning
There’s no connection
Grammar can be used
The rules for combinations
This makes language too
Like Kanzi does so
Through language, meaning transmits
He communicates

The Apes
Long arms and no tail,
Along with catarrhine nose,
And short and broad trunk.
True brachiationThe small-bodied lesser ape.
What is gibbon?
The genus PongoA quadrumanous movement:
The orangutan.
Knuckle-walking pose,
Fission-fusion social groups.
What is chimpanzee?
Have Y-5 molars,
Located in Africa.
What is gorilla?
Example Kanzi,
Dentition 2.1.2.3.
What is bonobo?

The Fittest (rap song)
Potassium Argon Haiku
This is biological anthro. Ape so call me a rascal.
Reproduction from DNA mother father collabo.
Genes inherit my brother while I’m provided with half so
He could look my mom and I could look like my dad though.
Naturally selected through Darwin’s theory he witnessed
The only one to survive is the fit, fitter, or fittest.
Competition from others so I’m trying to be the resistance.
I’m overcoming the drought like the Grants’ study of finches.
We of a common descent, but I am nothing like you.
Sure we share a common ancestor of a family of two.
But there’s a question I don’t understand, don’t mean to be
rude.
Why is she assortative mating picking me over you?
Hypothesis is no evolution’s occurring.
To find it out we can test it so we’re never having to worry.
So it’s P2 + 2PQ + Q2 =1
N if it do, that’s the Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium.
The dating technique
Works using half-life method
Time limit restraint
Hundred thousand years
To extreme past, use this
tech’
Potassium Ar.
Material used
A volcanic ash layer
From hominin site
Chorus
I ain’t waiting for no one. I ain’t waiting for no one.
I ain’t waiting for no one. I ain’t waiting for no one.
Cuz I’m tryna be the fittest. I ain't dying yet I’m living (5x’s)

Culture Poem
Culture’s not instinctive.
It’s something that we learn;
Like the lyrics to the song we sing
As birthday candles burn.
Capuchin monkey culture
Is not random at all.
They rub leaves on themselves
As the rain begins to fall.
Transcending subsistence;
No bread, fruit, or champagne.
There isn’t nourishment involved
As chimps dance in the rain.
Culture is persistent.
It’s something that will last.
Macaques still washed potatoes
Even after Imo passed.
Her technique was transmittable.
Culture spread throughout her group.
Clean potatoes were being eaten
By 80 percent of the troop.
Chimps in the Thai forest
Eat ants off of sticks.
This is natural culture;
No human taught these tricks!
