ART LAB: WINTER
“THE SPANISH SNOWMAN”
GOALS:
The aim of this craft is getting to know typical Spanish winter things by
making a Snowman.
TECHNIQUE:
COLLAGE
MATERIALS:
- Beans, red beans and lentils  stews are usually eaten in Spain,
especially in winter:
We will use these legumes to cover the snowman’s body.
- Oranges peel  oranges are a seasonal fruit in winter, and the
Spanish ones, especially from Valencia, are really good:
We will use orange peel to make the snowman’s nose.
- Roasted chestnut peels  roasted chestnuts are typically eaten in
winter in Spain. They are commonly sold in the streets:
We will use chestnut peels to cover the ground.
- Chocolate curls and white and yellow plasticine  hot chocolate
and “churros” are eaten in Spain, especially when it’s cold:
We will use chocolate curls and white and yellow plasticine
to make a hot chocolate cup with “churros”.
- Raisins  in Spain, at 12 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, everybody eats
12 grapes. It’s believed that they bring you good luck!
We will stick raisins to represent this event.
- Paper Crown / Markers  the Three Wise Men typically bring
presents the 6th January:
The Spanish Snowman will wear a crown to represent this date.
We may stick a paper crown or draw it with markers.
- Red and orange wool  these colours represent the Spanish flag:
We will use them to make the Snowman’s scarf.
- And of course GLUE!  to stick everything together!
This is the
result!!!
