Presidential Roles Project Choose ONE of the following projects. Due Date At beginning of class, 11/15/12 (Thurs.) 8 Roles of the President: Chief Executive, Chief of State, Commander in Chief, Chief Diplomat, Chief Legislator, Chief of Party, Chief Citizen, Chief manager of the economy Option One: Fitting Together Presidential Puzzle Pieces TOTAL: 32 points=100 Using poster board or multiple sheets of paper, cut out 12 puzzle pieces that can be re-assembled to form one puzzle. Each puzzle piece will have its own unique information. Required Puzzle Pieces 1. 1 puzzle piece with your name on it 2. 1 puzzle piece with title of the puzzle (roles of the president) with a picture (2 points) 3. 3 puzzle pieces each with a legal requirement to be president plus a picture. (3 pieces @ 2 points each = 6 points total) 4. 8 puzzle pieces each with a role of the president, definition of that role, and a picture of the president acting out that role. (8 pieces @ 3 points each = 24 points) 5. Once you are finished, make sure the back of each puzzle piece is numbered 1-12 and has your name on it. Option Two: Presidential Help Wanted Ad TOTAL: 32 points=100 Fill out a newspaper help wanted ad looking for a new president. Required Parts of the Advertisement: 1. Want ad title (be creative!) (1 point) 2. Formal requirements to become president in the constitution (1 point each =3 points) 3. Four informal requirements to become president (1 point each = 4 points) 4. Eight roles of the president along with descriptions of each duty (1 point for role and 1 point for description = 16 points) 5. Four pictures of American presidents acting out four of the roles of the president along with captions explaining each picture (1 point for each picture and 1 point for each caption = 8 points) Option Three: Presidential Instruction Manual TOTAL: 32 points=100 You are in charge of creating a user’s guide to the presidency for presidential candidates. You need to inform each of the candidates on the requirements to become president, and how to carry out their role while in office. Required Instruction Manual Information: 1. Title page with picture (2 points) 2. Page one - Formal requirements to become president (1 point each = 3 points) 3. Page two - Three non-formal requirements to become president (1 point each = 3 points) 4. Pages three through ten – Each page must contain one of the eight roles of the president along with a description/definition and a picture showing how to fill that role. (8 pages @ 3 points per page = 24 points total)
