You will have two (more) tests in trigonometry in this course. All the trig topics are related to each other however they have been split into three distinct sections in order to maximize your success
(I hope).
Trig Test #2 will require you to know a (huge) list of trig facts.
These are better known as Trigonometric Identities.
If Part A is marked and corrected, you may use your list as a resource sheet during Trig Test #2 and #3.
Trig Test #3 will require you to solve Trigonometric Equations. This will be made easier with the use of the “Special Triangles” or the “Unit Circle”.
If Part B is marked and corrected, you may use your list as a resource sheet during Trig Test #3.
Part A -- Trigonometric Identities a) What is a trigonometric (trig) identity?
How is it used in math class? How is it used in “real life”? b) By using your Grade 11 notes and/or technology, provide a complete list of trig identities.
The list must include:
Reciprocal Identities (3)
Quotient Identities (2)
Pythagorean Identities (9)
Compound Angle Identities (6)
Double Angle Identities (5)
Part B -- The Unit Circle a) By using your Grade 11 notes and/or technology, provide a completely labeled “unit circle”.
The “unit circle” must encompass all four quadrants and be labeled in degrees AND radians.
The co-ordinates ( cos x , sin x ) must be provided for all multiples of 30
360 o ).
There should be 16 ordered pairs, 17 degree labels and 17 radian labels. o and 45 o (from 0 o to b) By using your Grade 11 notes and/or technology, provide both “special triangles”. c) Calculate the following to 4 decimal places where necessary: i)
