Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance Job Family and Level: Technical Services Level 1 Contract Status: Permanent Hours of Work: Full-time (36.25 hours per week) Location: Sutton Bonington Campus Reporting to: Simon Clifford Purpose of the New Role: To fully support the delivery of teaching for the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science by ensuring that live animal and laboratory based practical classes are fully provided for through the provision of materials, advice and operational support. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10 Main Responsibilities % time per year Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the laboratories and teaching areas including the cleaning of equipment and instrument to a high standard, cleaning and disinfecting sinks and work surfaces and ensuring that the student locker areas are kept in reasonable order Support the running of the school small hold facilities, to include general animal husbandry and house keeping duties Responsible for maintaining stock levels in the laboratories, teaching rooms and other facilities including chemicals, other consumables, utensils and clean protective clothing Set-up, dismantling, cleaning and reassembling specific items as required. Basic maintenance of equipment Support the running of the school livery yard and associated facilities, to include receiving deliveries, allocation of weekly provisions to livery tenants and basic maintenance of the stables, grazing fields and ménage surface Maintenance of the school kennel and dog exercise facilities ensuring that all animals are managed in clean and comfortable surroundings Collection of goods from stores and other areas. Moving resources (including live small, large and exotic animals), consumables, laboratory and other equipment and furniture when necessary Washing, drying and sterilising glass/plastic ware and utensils. Preparation of equipment for autoclaving and sterilising/autoclaving materials and equipment which are to be used in teaching Disposal of clinical and biohazard waste ensuring that contaminated waste is disposed of safely and appropriately Preparing materials and basic solutions for use in teaching 15% 15% 5% 10% 15% 10% 10% 10% 5% 5% Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualifications/ 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) in Education relevant subjects, or previous work experience in a relevant role Knowledge/Skills Good IT skills (MicroSoft Office) /Training Experience Experience of working with horses and/or cattle Other Desirable BTec in Animal Care/Management Experience of working with small mammals and exotics Experience of exercising horses Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students at all levels Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team Willing to undertake overtime duties at weekends as required Full driving licence Satisfactory Enhanced disclosure is obtained from the Disclosure and Barring Service Decision Making i) taken independently by the role holder; Development and organisation of teaching materials Provision of advice and support during practical classes Implementing safety procedures. Matters outside normal School policy Implementation of new safety policies or major changes to existing policies Spend >£500 Scope of the Role The role is crucial in the support of the teaching requirements of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.
