Springer acquires Asia Europe Journal from Asia-Europe Foundation
STM publisher Springer has acquired the Asia Europe Journal from the Asia-Europe Foundation
(ASEF). The ASEF has transferred the copyright of the journal to Springer. The Foundation will no
longer be associated with the journal.

McMaster University partners with DynaMed to identify practice-changing evidence across
medical disciplines
McMaster University's Health Information Research Unit and DynaMed from EBSCO Publishing have
partnered to help physicians understand the scope of the medical research being published every
day. The agreement seeks to provide physicians with the information they need to know - the best
available evidence - when and where they need it most - at the point of care.

McGraw-Hill Education's CINCH Science programme selected by Texas State Board of Education
for state-wide use
The Texas State Board of Education has voted to make McGraw-Hill Education's CINCH Science

Springer set to publish official journal of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society
STM publisher Springer has announced that it will publish the Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering (CJME), starting January 2012. The journal joins Springer's Chinese Library of Science, a
collection of more than 90 China-based international research journals available at
www.springerlink.com.

BMJ Group in deal with German hospitals to support better patient care
Medical publisher the BMJ Group has announced an agreement with Asklepios Clinics Hamburg to

New IEEE standard offers directions for preparing design criteria documents for transmission
lines
IEEE has announced that IEEE 1724 - Guide for the Preparation of a Transmission Line Design Criteria
Document - has been approved and published. In addition, the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA)
Standards Board has approved a project to revise an existing standard on improving transmission
lines' lightning performance.

STM publisher Elsevier has introduced Genome Viewer, a new interactive feature on SciVerse
ScienceDirect for applicable life sciences journals. The Genome Viewer is a SciVerse application
that displays detailed gene or genomic sequence information on the genes mentioned in an article.

Cell Press announces January 2012 launch of new OA journal - Cell Reports
Cell Press has announced the launch of its latest journal, Cell Reports, which will publish its first
issue in January 2012. The journal is the first open-access online-only journal from Cell Press.
Boyana Konforti will serve as the Editor of the journal.

Android tablets to surpass iPad sales by 2016, estimates Informa Research
Informa Research Services has predicted that tablet computers running Google's Android software
will compete with Apple's iPad and surpass it in 2016. According to Informa, Apple's current 75
percent market share is expected to fall to 39 percent in 2015.

JISC announces support for govt. recommendations for peer review process changes
The JISC has announced its support for the recently recommended improvements to the way
scientific papers are checked before they are published. The recommendations came out of a House
of Commons Science and Technology Committee report that also urged that reviewers have formal
training.

Apple, Google gaining leadership in mobile apps and platform, says study
Appcelerator and IDC have announced results from a joint survey of 2,012 Appcelerator developers
around the world. The analysis shows that Apple and Google are accelerating their lead in mobile by
redefining mobile app engagement, loyalty and cloud connectivity through their new Google+ and
iCloud offerings.

Scientific journals subscription renewals boost Reed Elsevier first-half profit
Reed Elsevier has reportedly posted better than expected first-half results after seeing a renewal in
subscriptions to its scientific and health publications. The company's pre-tax profit rose 6 percent to
£662 million compared with a year ago, but revenues fell 3 percent to £2.9 billion.

Life sciences publisher CABI has announced that the CAB Thesaurus has had its biggest update in 30
years. It has reportedly grown 40 percent in just one year and now includes nearly 137,000 terms.
Additions include 10,000 nematode species mentioned in CABI online databases.

Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, has announced the appointment of

Digital Science launches new funding programme to encourage innovation
Digital Science, a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd., unveiled its Catalyst Prize, an initiative to
support innovators who wish to develop new software tools or technologies for scientific research.
The programme will provide a series of awards up to £15,000 each (about $24,000) to the most
promising ideas for novel uses of information technology in science.
