PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Teach For America/Special Education Teacher – Denver School of Science and
Technology College View Middle School, Denver, Colorado, June 2014 – Present.
Serving as a Special Education teacher for DSST College View Middle School.
Responsible for providing accommodations and classroom instruction for a case load of
students with learning disabilities and monitoring students’ educational growth.
Recreation Program and Facility Supervisor – Armed Forces Recreation, FE Warren
AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming, March 2013 – June 2014.
Responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, promoting and supervising a variety of
recreation programs, special events, and facilities to meet the needs of the local
community stationed at FE Warren Air Force Base. These programs include mountain
biking, youth adventure programs, rock climbing, canoeing, sports activities, aquatics
events, and fitness activities to include triathlons; large special events such as holiday
festivals, community celebrations, sporting events, and community concerts; and
supporting community outreach organizations. Facility management responsibilities
include managing a large recreation center with basketball courts, a climbing wall,
batting cages, dance studios, indoor pool, and a Starbucks coffee shop.
Directly responsible for approving recreation programs prior to implementation;
preparing and administering the annual program budget; developing and implementing
marketing and promotional plans; overseeing facility and equipment maintenance;
training staff on the use of the Vermont Systems RecTrac operating system; developing
and monitoring Standard Operating Procedures ensuring that all programs meet Federal,
State, and local regulations and developing partnerships with community organizations to
provide programs and events.
Supervisory responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and
evaluating payroll staff and volunteers to support programs and special events;
formulating performance standards and Individual Development Plans; conducting
training sessions focused on current recreation trends, customer service relations, conflict
resolution, team development, and effective communication skills.
Outdoor Recreation and Special Events Supervisor – Armed Forces Recreation, Fort
Benning, Georgia, August 2011 – March 2013.
Responsible for providing a wide variety of recreation programs and special events to
customers of all ages, supervising and training the Special Events and Recreation
Program Coordinators as well as numerous paid and volunteer staff, and managing a
large outdoor recreation facility.
Directly responsible for delivering large community special events to include the 4th of
July Fest, Oktoberfest, running events, football games, and community concerts. These
large scale events included coordinating with many internal and external agencies to
deliver high quality experiences. Responsibilities also included securing and overseeing
contracted services and working with vendors and sponsors to support the event.
Directly responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans to include
conducting focus groups, evaluating survey results, and designing flyers, brochures, and
web pages; developing and executing the annual operating budget and five year business
plan; evaluating program effectiveness; and maintaining Standing Operating Procedures.
Recreation and Special Events Programmer - Town of Buckeye Community Services,
Sports, and Special Events, Buckeye, Arizona, August 2008 – April 2010.
Responsible for programming and coordinating adult and youth sports, special events,
community center programs, and senior programs. Responsibilities include conducting
trainings for all coaches and parents through National Alliance for Youth Sports,
coordinating field and court schedules with local school districts, developing and
monitoring program budgets, obtaining sponsors for events and programs to subsidize
program costs, and designing program flyers, brochures, and websites. Responsible for
supervising paid staff, paid officials and volunteers in order to staff programs and events.
Special event coordinating responsibilities include planning and implementing
community sporting events such as Hersey’s Pitch, Hit, and Run, Punt, Pass, and Kick,
and Dribble, Dish, and Swish. Also responsible for partnering with community nonprofit agencies such as Young Life and Foster Care Network to provide community
events such as the Relay for Life, 10K races, Kaboom Park It & Play in Buckeye Day,
Foster Care Network Fun Run, the annual Easter Festival, and Halloween Spooktacular.
Accomplishments include winning the 2009 Arizona Parks and Recreation Association
(APRA) Youth Enrichment Award for the implementation of the RECing Crew.
