Recreation Draft Process
PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to layout the guidelines for Girls Recreation Basketball
Draft.
CONTENTS
The Girls Basketball Recreation Draft will be handled in the follow manner.
One week after the Recreation Ratings are performed, the ratings data will be provided
to the league coordinators for the JV, Varsity, and Senior Leagues.
In putting the teams together use the following:
1) Assign the coaches children.
2). Give each team a “player” (rated well in most/all categories and specifically the
scrimmage).
3). Give each team one of the tallest players.
4). Give each team one of the top dribblers.
(There may be overlap with any of these, especially with the coach’s child).
5). Select a second tier player from each category.
(This will put you at about 6 to 7 players per team.)
6) From there add the rest of the players looking at height, dribbling ability and the
overall rating.
7). Once this is done, look at the total rating number for all the teams and make
adjustments to try to balance out the total number.
8). Once you have completed these steps, solicit several members of the committee to
review the make up of the teams to make sure that they look fair. There are times when
a child may rate low, but they are better than the numbers show.
Once the teams start practicing and scrimmaging, the league coordinator should go to
the practices to see how each team looks. Late registrants or wait list players will be
rated and added to the appropriate team to retain balance in the league.
