I.
Call to Order: Senate President Rosi Enriquez called the meeting to order at
1:07 pm
II.
Order of the Agenda
Curriculum Council report will take place when Prof. Babyan arrives
III.
Public Comments:
 Prof. Sproat informed the senate that the librarians inquired as to who
makes the decisions regarding the name of the library that is currently
under construction.
o Prof. Smith mentioned that suggestions could be forwarded to the
Board of Trustees.
o Prof. Enriquez states that she would research board policies regarding
the naming of buildings.

Prof. Sproat also wanted information as to how are senators replaced.

There also was a brief discussion regarding the honoring of retirees and
recently tenured faculty.
IV.
Approval of the Minutes:
 The minutes from 12 January 2005 were approved.
V.
Reports:
A. President’s Report
 Profs. Brooks, Babyan, and Womack currently share duties as Curriculum
Council chair. After Prof. Brooks steps down in the fall, Profs. Babyan and
Womack will serve as co-chairs.
B. CPAC
 There was no discussion regarding the Student Equity Plan
 The paragraph version of the Mission Statement was accepted. There was
a concern about space.
 The Student Success Council is not meeting.
o Prof. Adams expressed a concern that is the Student Success
Council does not meet, they then do not report to the senate.
C. ASB
No Report
D. Curriculum
 Prof. Babyan reported that there has been a marked improvement of
the number of degrees and certificates that a student can complete
at SCC versus the number offered.

o The upper number represent the number of degrees and
certificates that can be completed entirely with classes offered
here at SCC versus the bottom number that represent the
number of degree and certificates offered here at SCC.
o There have been improvements in three ways. First, more
degrees can be completed by virtue of more courses offered here
at SCC, restructuring degrees & certificates, or deletion of degrees
& certificates we no longer offer

Technology Committee
Prof. Cannon reported that the committee is finalizing the survey.
There is a web conference 2/16 – 2/18
April 5, Bob will come to speak to the senate
F. BAPR
 Important dates for the budget were discussed.

VI.
o 4/12: Budget due back to the district
o 6/8: BAPR has to have budget to Board
o 6/27: Board meets
The district is stills FTES to meet the 3% growth.
Winter intersession may be reinstated
Prof. Barembaum reported that Dr. Zacovic discussed the computer
enrollment management system.
o The district is working to institute a new system that will improve
things such as online enrollment. However, that new system is a
year away.

VII. Discussion Items:
Student Equity Plan
 Page 15 lists completion rates for Mathematics. There were some concerns
as to whether these are numbers correct.
 A questions was asked whether this document is a plan or a descriptive
document.
 The senate asked to give inputs to Ms. Lorrie Jordan and Dean Ruth
Babeshoff by 2/9/2005.

