Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony at DLW
59th Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony was organised on 16 th April at DLW
Auditorium (Cinema Hall). On this occasion Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager gave
away awards to 124 meritorious officers, supervisors and employees for their commendable
performances in their respective fields
during the year 2013-14. Shri Khare

gave

Best Performance award went to Loco
Assembly Shop, besides Best Safety Performance award to Central Transport Shop, Best House
Keeping award to Light Machine Shop and Best Service Shop to Tooling Division of Mechanical
Department. While UP-1 bagged the Best Purchases Section award, Second Best Purchases Section
award went to UP-7, as well as Ward No.-39 (Heavy Lift Shed) and Ward No.-41 (TOT) secured the
first and second Best Ward awards respectively. In this addition, the employees of Recruitment
Section
and
Personnel
its
associate
Department
were
section
given
of
the
Special Prize for their overall performance
during the year.
Speaking on this occasion Shri
Khare felicitated employees, supervisors
and officers, who won the awards for their achievements in various spheres. Shri Khare said that
keeping up its glorious traditions of the past, DLW achieved the target of the production of 300
locomotives in 2013-14 set by Railway Board before 6 days of the ending of financial year and
dedicated the 300th loco to nation on 25th March, 2014. Besides, this year DLW produced 340
Engines, 20 HHP Power Packs and 115 Fabricated Crank Cases also. By overhauling the 130 super
turbo charger and 57 turbo clutch assembly of Zonal Railways, DLW contributed to the smooth
operation of trains in Indian Railways.
Highlighting the achievements of DLW in marketing field, Shri Khare said that in the financial
year 2013-14, DLW exported 03 locomotives of 2300 HP to
Srilanka through IRCON and 16 locomotives of 3100 HP to
Bangladesh through RITES, total 33 locomotives and spare
parts were supplied to NRCs and earned a revenue of `
321.41
crores.
During
the
year
supply
order
for
10
locomotives worth ` 115.21 crores has also been received
from NRCs. DLW has secured purchase orders for supply of 08
locomotives and spare parts worth ` 99.05 crores to Non-Railway customers in the current year
2014-15. In addition, purchases orders for 19 locomotives from NRCs are under consideration and
offers have been sent to them. For the export of locomotives to International Market, negotiations
are underway through RITES and IRCON for the export of approximately 46 locomotives to Srilanka,
Mozambique and Malaysia. Shri Khare also focused upon the achievements of other departments of
DLW.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Chief Public Relations Officer Shri Atul Kumar Kanaujia,
highlighted the glorious history of Indian Railways and said that Indian Railways had started their
spectacular journey on 16th April, 1853 from Mumbai to Thane covering a distance of 34 kilometers.
To commemorate this glorious moment, Railway Week Celebration is organised in Indian Railways
every year from 10th to 16th April. Railways have also witnessed the every moment and event of our
country’s freedom struggle. Today Indian Railways has completed 160 years of that historical
journey and the developmental journey of Railways is still continued without any pause.
Congratulating the DLW employees he said that Railways are lifeline of our country and our locos
energise this lifeline.
Earlier, the function started with the lighting of lamp by Shri Khare, GM, Shri A.K.Singh,
CME and other HODs jointly. Thereafter, mesmerising the viewers, DLW’s artists presented a
colourful cultural programme of Kathak Dance and Rajsthani Group Dance. Important among those
who were present on this occasion were Shri S.P.Piplani, COS, Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO and other
HODs, members of DLW Women's Welfare Organisation, officers, staff council members as well as
employees, their family members and friends in a large number. The programme concluded with the
vote of thanks proposed by Shri Pradeep Mishra, PRO, while Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the
whole programme efficiently.
Fire Brigade Day at DLW
Fire Brigade unit of Diesel Locomotive Works Railway
Protection Force observed Fire Brigade day at eastern gate of
workshop on 14th April. On this occasion, Chief Mechanical
Engineer Shri A.K.Sing took salute of the Fire Brigade unit of
RPF.
On this occasion, RPF personnel presented mock drills
showing how to save property and people in case of fire
incidents. Through their mock drills, they showed that how to
extinguish fire if caught in dry grass, oil, electric short-circuit
and at height. They also showed how to bring out the people
trapped in fire site and how to carry them on stretcher and in
ambulance to the hospital.

Security
Commissioner Shri S.C.Chaudhari highlighted the history of Fire
Brigade Day. He said that on April 14, 1944 in major fire incident at Victoria Dock, Mumbai several
persons including fire fighting personnel were killed and to pay
tributes to those victims, this day is observed every year.
On this occasion, chief guest Shri Singh also inspected
various fire fighting equipments and inspected the CCTV
monitoring room by which RPF personnel keep watch in
workshop area and entry gates. Important among those who
were present on this occasion S/Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO,
Yogesh Asthana, CEE, R.B.Yadav, CE, Dr.S.S.Negi, CMO, Madhu Shyam Das Gupta, ASC as well as
other officers, staff, RPF officers and Jawans in a large number.
Ambedkar Jayanti Celebration
Under the auspices of DLW welfare department, 123th Ambedkar Jayanti Celebration was
organised on 14th April at Technical Training Centre Auditorium. Paying rich tribute to Dr. Ambedkar
chief guest Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager
said that Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was not only a constitution
maker, but a great social reformer and economist also. In
this connection, it will not be out of course to mention here
that
Reserve
Bank
of
India
was
established
by
his
suggestions and efforts. He was a nationalist, socialist and a
top class scholar. He, not only worked for the welfare of the
people of down trodden society, but for the equality of all the
communities and religions as well as worked for the
empowerment of women and welfare of labourers also.
On this occasion, CME Shri A.K.Singh, CPO Shri Arjun
Tabiyar, FA&CAO/TOT Shri Hradai Narayan, Joint Secy./Staff
Council Shri Amar Singh and office bearers of SC/ST/OBC

General ManagerDLW flagged off 300th loco of the year
Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi turned out its
300th
locomotive
of
the
financial
year
2013-14.
Shri
Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager and Shri S.
Kabeer Ahmad, Chief Mechanical Engineer flagged off this
flower bedecked locomotive painted in resplendent colour
scheme on 25th March, 2014 with performing rituals in a
simple ceremony held at Loco Test Shop. On this occasion,
addressing the DLW’s employees Shri Khare said that this
achievement is as a milestone in the annals of DLW and this breakthrough has been achieved
without any expansion in manufacturing facilities or increase in the resources. Highlighting the other
achievements of DLW he talked about the production target for the forthcoming financial year and
said we will come over this challenge also. On this occasion, congratulating the DLW employees for
this historic achievement CME Shri Ahmad called upon them to get ready for the forthcoming
challenges. Proposing the vote of thanks CME/P Shri K.B.Sahay highlighted the production activities
and achievements of DLW.
It is worthwhile to mention here that this year Railway Board had given a production target
of 300 locomotives to DLW. Breaking all its previous records, DLW manufactured 300 locomotives
before 6 days of the end of March, 2014. 268 High Horse Power, most modern microprocessor
controlled AC-AC Traction locomotives are also included in this figure, which is also the highest ever
production of such type of locomotives and a breakthrough for DLW. Last year DLW had
manufactured 231 such type of locomotives. On this occasion, Shri Khare declared a cash award of `
1,00,000/- for DLW employees. The above flagged off High Horse Power dual cab WDG4D freight
locomotive no.-70303 is being sent to Sabarmati diesel shed of Western Railway. DLW has
manufactured 03 such type of locomotives. Prototype of
this locomotive was dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble
Minister of Railways Shri Mallikarjun Kharge on 06th
November, 2013. Now it is in regular production. Earlier, in
Engine Shop he flagged off 333rd engine of the financial
year manufactured at DLW. On this occasion, Shri Khare
declared a cash award of `
50,000/- for employees
involved in engine production.
It will not be out of course to mention here that out of these 300 locomotives, 15
locomotives of ALCO series have been supplied to Non Railway Customers and 17 locomotives have
been exported to Bangladesh & Sri Lanka also. It is also
mentionable here that this year DLW manufactured 333
Engine, which are 22 more than previous year of 311
Engine production. Besides these achievements, this year
DLW has also manufactured 20 HHP power packs and 115
crankcases, in comparison of 09 HHP power packs and 105
crankcases manufactured in previous year. Apart from this
DLW overhauled 127 super turbocharger of Zonal Railways
ageist overhauling of 31 super turbocharger of last year and contributed in smooth operation of
Railways. It is also mentionable here that This year DLW has also taken up a task of overhauling of
turbo clutch assembly and so far 52 turbo clutch assembly have been overhauled.
The programme concluded with the inauguration of CCTV control room by Shri Khare at RPF
post at Workshop Main Gate in presence of Shri S.C.Choudhari, Sr. Security Commissioner and other
RPF officers and staff. On this occasion, Shri Khare also declared a cash award of ` 20,000/- for RPF
personnels. On this occasion Shri K.B.Sahay, CME/P, Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO, Shri Yogesh
Asthana, CEE as well as other HODs, officers, employees and Staff Council members were present in
a large number. Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme efficiently.

was a comedy drama ‘Mahabharat Ka Yudhdha’
presented by Ankur Natya Santha, written by Shri Indranath Bandopadhyay and directed by Shri
Trishit Kumar Chatterjee. Viewers welcomed this comedy play with thumping noise.
Earlier, the ‘Shishirotsav’ started with the lighting of lamp by Chief Guest Shri S.P.Piplani,
COS, Shri K.B.Sahay, CME/P & President/Sansthan, Shri Hradai Narayan, FA&CAO/TOT and Shri
V.R.Mishra, CMM/Loco jointly. On this occasion, chief guest Shri Piplani paid tribute to little artist
late Shivanshi Singh who expired in an accident as well
as honoured to Shri Salim Raja and Shri Jai Prakash

contribution in the field of art. On this occasion Shri

Annual Inspection of DLW St. John's Ambulance Brigade
Annual inspection of DLW St. John's Ambulance Brigade concluded at DLW Basketball ground
on
25th
January with an impressive parade and salute. On this occasion, Chief Medical Officer and
Core Surgeon, SJAB Dr. S.S.Negi unfurled the Brigade's
flag and inspected the parade.
The Brigade members demonstrated various symbolic
presentations like providing first aid to the victims of a
casualty in any situation and transporting them to the
hospital from some other places, stretcher drill, fireman
lift, artificial breathing and many other rescue methods.
On this occasion, the brigade members also presented a
brief cultural programme, which was highly appreciated
by the guests. During the programme, Dr.Negi also
gave

231
HHP
locomotives.

is

locomotives over to its production target of 280
locomotives fixed for this year and is also a highest
ever
production
record.
For
this
excellent
performance, DLW bagged “Best Production Unit Shield” from Railway Board.
To mark the occasion, an attractive colourful cultural programme was also presented by the
students of DLW based schools attired in colourful dresses. The programme included the Dog Shows
by RPF Dog Squad, patriotic song, action songs and folk dances etc. Which was highly admired by
the viewers. The programme concluded with the Vote

Annual Function of 'Bal Niketan'
Bal Niketan a primary school run by DLW Women's Welfare Organisation celebrated its
Annual Function at School Premises on 20th February, 2014 with sports and colourful cultural
programmes by students. On this occasion, blessing the childres as chief guest Smt. Ranjana Khare,
Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation said that it is the basic responsibility of the
teachers and parents both that besides the teaching, it is
necessary
build
up
character
to
the
of
students
and
inculcate
the
moral
values in
them.
On the occasion, sports competition were organised for the different classes of the students
like Bridle race, Bhim race, Picking the Ball race & Balloon race etc. In this function, the children of
Bal Niketan also presented a colourful cultural programme. In which they presented welcome song,
group dance, folk dance, nagada dance which mesmerised the viewers.

Vaishnavi Tripathi of class 5-A was declared as the most
meritorious student of the school. While Md. Anas of class

sports, Hindi & English writing, Art & Craft as well as other activities & topped in their classes were
also awarded. Besides, six children were given the scholarship of ` 2000/- each.
At the end of the programme, delighted with the

"Kavya Sandhya" at DLW
Under the auspices of Rajbhasha Department a "Kavya Sandhya" was organised at DLW
Auditorium (Cinema Hall) on 26th February. Eminent Hindi
& Urdu poets and satirists participated in this Kavya
Sandhya.
Among the noted poets from Varanasi and outside, who
recited their poetries and satires at the meet were Shri
Hari Narayan Singh 'Harish' (Ghazipur), Shri Bhal Chandra
Tripathi
(Ambedkar
Nagar),
Shri
Kamlesh
Dwivedi
(Kanpur), Shri Shankar ‘Kaimuri’ (Patna), Smt. Sangya Tiwari (Ghazipur), Shri V.R.Viplavi, ADRM,
NCR (Mughalsarai), Shri Jhagdu Bhaiya, Shri Shamim Ghazipuri (Both Varanasi), Shri Hradai
Narayan, FA&CAO/TOT, Shri Naresh Prasad Sinha, CMM/Loco and Shri Subhash Chandra Choudhary,
SSC/RPF (All DLW). Reciting their poetries they made a scathing attack on the present politics,
social evils and irregularities prevailing in the society. They covered a wide spectrum of themes on
contemporary life and were widely acclaimed by the audience. The poets mesmerised the audience
by presenting the lyrics in their own voice. Kavya Sandhya was conducted by the prominent poet
critic Shri Hari Narayan Singh 'Harish'.

“Chetna”, a school for handicapped children run by DLW
Women’s Welfare Organisation celebrated its 18th annual
function on February 26th with the brief colourful cultural
programme presented by school’s children at Officers’
Club. The function started with the lighting of lamp by
chief guest Smt. Ranjana Khare, Chairperson, DLW
Women’s
Welfare
Organisation.
Speaking
on
this
occasion Smt. Khare said “Chetna” is indulging in making the handicapped children self-dependent
by educating and providing them vocational training.
She further added that by getting such training the
handicapped children can easily join the main stream of
the society. She said that these children need not only
sympathy, but also love, affection and positive support
from others. Smt. Khare urged the parents of these
children to give full support them and hoped that
“Chetna” will continue welfare and rehabilitation work of
these children in future also.
Earlier, a colourful cultural programme was also presented by the children including chanting of
Gayitry Mantra, Holi Dance, Poem recital, Bhangra Dande, Group Dance, Fancy Dress etc., which
was highly appreciated by the viewers with the thumping noise. Smt.Khare gave away prizes to the
students and honoured the teachers for rendering their excellent service to the humanity. She also
distributed the profit among the children, earned from the selling of hand made things made by
them. Smt. Sarika Kannujia, Secy., Chetna announced the names of the children who received the
money.

Flower and Vegetable Show at DLW
33rd flower and vegetable show was organised on 01st & 02nd March, 2014 at DLW Basketball
Ground. It was inaugurated by chief guest Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager on 01st
March.
This two
day flower
and
vegetable
show
concluded
on 2nd
March with the prize distribution by General Manager
Shri Khare to the winners and runners of the show. On account of maximum points, host DLW was
declared overall champion, followed by Banaras Hindu University.
Over 2815 varieties of plants flowers and vegetables were displayed by about 125
participants in the show. As many as 16 Running Challenge Trophies were given in this show for
different items. Out of which three each were bagged by DLW & BHU and two Jaihind Nursery,
followed by N.E. Railway, 39 Gorkha Training Centre, District Horticultural Officer, School of
Management Science, Komal Enterprises, DLW officer Smt. Tulika Srivastava and DLW staff Smt.
Usha Rani one each. Besides, Komal Enterprises received the shield for decorating best marriage
'mandap'. The Milan variety rose displayed by Jaihind
Nursery was declared as 'King of the Show' while the
rose of Luciana variety displayed by the School of
Management Science was adjudged as 'Queen of the
Show'. Earlier, Smt. Ranjana Khare, Chairperson, DLW
Women's Welfare Organisation awarded the winners of
the house decoration and kitchen garden contest of
Type-I to Type-IV quarters at DLW campus, their
names were announced by Smt. Manisha Gupta, Joint Secy., DLW Women's Welfare Organisation.
Varieties of innovated and colourful flowers, plants and vegetables including Bouquet, Buttonholes,
garlands and piers of table decoration etc. were displayed in the show, which formed an ambience of
fragrance and natural beauty. The whole ground was looking like a valley of flowers, which drew
huge gathering of nature lovers. During two day show thousands of visitors watched the show.
Flower bedecked marriage 'mandaps' were of the centre of great attraction for the visitors.

Hotel Load Locomotive ‘Prateek’ on Golden Jubilee of DLW
Shri Alok Johari, Member Mechanical, Railway Board flagged-off flower bedecked new type
4500 HP Hotel Load Diesel Locomotive WDP4B ‘Prateek’ decorated in resplendent colour scheme and
DLW built first 2600 HP WDM2 locomotive ‘Kundan’ (This 50-yearold locomotive has now been decommissioned and is a permanent
exhibit at DLW.) in a grand ceremony held at workshop, on the
concluding function of Golden Jubilee Year of DLW on 03 rd January,
2014.
On
this
occasion,
flagging-off
these
locomotives
he
performed rituals and thereafter he inspected the driver cab of
‘Prateek’ locomotive along with Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare,
General Manager, Shri Rakesh Vatash, Chief Mechanical Engineer and other officers.
Congratulating
the
DLW
officers,
supervisors
and
employees on the concluding function of Golden Jubilee Year,
Shri Johari said that today
DLW
has
glorious
completed
years
of
fifty
its
production. Today we have
flagged off two locomotives,
in
which
one
locomotive
‘Kundan’ symbolise the end of an era, while the other locomotive
‘Prateek’ shows a new beginning. DLW built first locomotive ‘Kundan’ reflects the past of DLW,
whereas locomotive ‘Prateek’ is a symbol of modern age.
On this occasion, expressing his views Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager gave
away the whole credit of DLW’s progress and development to the former General Managers and
Principal Officers of DLW attending the function and said that DLW built first 2600 HP ALCO
locomotive in 1964. By day-by-day progress, at present DLW is producing different types of High
Horse Power locomotives equipped with most modern facilities. The hotel load locomotive ‘Prateek’,
which is flagged off today, is a series production of HHP locomotives.
Welcoming the Member Mechanical, guests, officers and employees Chief Mechanical
Engineer Shri Rakesh Vatash focussed upon the production activities and breakthrough of DLW. The
programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri K.B.Sahay, Chief Mechanical
Engineer/Production and Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Existing EOG train power supply is through two Power Cars (containing DG sets). DLW’s new
locomotive design provides 500 KVA train power supply load. Locomotive eliminates one power car,
allows to add one more coach in lieu. Results in improved overall efficiency, reliability, fuel
efficiency, economics and passenger accommodation. This locomotive is equipped with compact roof
mounted air conditioning unit driver cab, heated wind shield
technology, in-built wash facility, new design pneumatically
operated wiper assembly, LED based focussed cab light with
dimming feature, Ergonomically designed driver cab seat with
height adjustment, lumbar support, seat tilt and breathing
upholstery.
To mark the Golden Jubilee Year celebration, plethora of
programmes were organised at DLW, in which a seminar on
“Future Trends in Diesel Locomotives” was organised in Technical
Training Centre Auditorium on
02nd and 03rd January. The Ex.

DLW along with DLW officers and major suppliers attended this
seminar,
who
expressed
their
views
and
put
up
their
presentations regarding the future prospects, developments and
innovations in diesel locomotives. Besides a two-day colourful cultural programme was also
organised at Rangshala in which on 02nd January DLW artists presented a colourful cultural variety
programme of Geet, Gazal, Bhajan and Dance. On 03rd January a troop of Rajsthani artists
presented an eye catching programme of Rajsthani Folk Dances and songs. Both the cultural
programmes were highly appreciated by the viewers. The Golden Jubilee Year celebration concluded
on 04th January with the inauguration of newly established Computerised Railway Passenger
Reservation System (Cash PRS) at Central Market by Shri Alok Johari, Member Mechanical, Railway
Board, as a gift of the Golden Jubilee Year to the DLW employees and the people of adjacent areas.
70th All India Railway Football Championship at DLW
Under the auspices of DLW Sports Association 70 th All India
Railway Football Championship was organised from 20th September
to 01st October (group-‘C’ and
‘D’ league matches) at DLW
Stadium. It was inaugurated by

Vatash
introducing with the members of
the teams, participating in the championship and kicked the
football. On this occasion, CME
Shri Vatash and CQAM Shri A.K.Sharma unfured the Railway Sports
Promotion Board’s and DLW Sports Association’s flags respectively.
Sham-e-Gazal
To commemorate the Golden Jubilee Year of DLW, a
cultural programme “Sham-E-Gazal” was organised under the
joint auspices of DLW Cultural
Association, Indian Council for
Cultural Relations and Bhartiya
Lalit Kala Academy on 18th
September
at
Auditorium
(Cinema Hall). The renowned gazal singer Shri Krishnanand and
group of Lucknow presented a
heart throbbing programme of gazal and enthralled the audience.
