JOB PURPOSE To ensure that all service users are provided with sufficient levels of linen to meet the needs of each ward and department. 3. ORGANISATIONAL POSITION Reports to Domestic Manager/ Hotel Services Manager See attached organisation chart 4. SCOPE AND RANGE NHS Dumfries and Galloway serves a population of 145,800 across a predominantly Rural area of 2500 square miles. 5.MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Your performance must comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland as well as the Code of Conduct. Failure to adhere to the Standards or to comply with the Code may result in poor performance measures or disciplinary action and could lead to dismissal. Receipt of linen from laundry. The sorting of linen for distribution to the appropriate departments Transport and movement of linen to and from departments within moving and handling regulatory recommendations. Top up linen within wards and departments The sorting of uniforms and delivery of uniforms to the appropriate lockers. The tying of laundry bags Administration tasks related to Linen Services The removal of and replacement of curtains within wards and departments in line with operational policy Minor Repairs to staff uniforms/ patients clothing Marking of the Organisations/ patients property which is relating to linen /sewing services Report any equipment faults General Housekeeping duties To comply with all departmental and organisational policies e.g Equality and Diversity To provide flexible working across the Operational Services Department mainly in the Domestic Services department. Carry out all cleaning tasks detailed in the Domestic Services specification. The pre- preparation and cleaning of isolation rooms, to agreed standards. Work with other staff in clinical areas to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control are maintained. Remove clinical/ domestic waste from wards and departments in accordance with agreed procedures. Provide a beverage/ food service as appropriate Sign off work sheets as tasks are completed. Dumfries & Galloway NHS Assist with the movement of beds and furniture for cleaning purposes Notify Domestic Supervisors/ Charge Nurse of faulty equipment and maintenance requirements Maintain DSR’s in a clean and tidy condition. Clean and replace all equipment after use. Participate in staff training and development as required. Ensure safe working procedures and hygiene practices are observed in the execution of all tasks. Replenish supplies of toilet rolls, hand towels, soap etc.. COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS The Domestic/Linen Services team work within most areas of the organisation, therefore there may be contact with patients , visitors, clients and work colleagues on a daily basis. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB A good level of fitness is required, particularly when changing curtains as the work is often above head height, standing on safety ladders. The post involves pushing and pulling loads, as well as bending and stretching to put linen Onto racking and uniforms into lockers. All work is carried out using correct Moving and Handling techniques for which training is provided as mandatory. 10. MOST CHALLENGING/DIFFICULT PARTS OF THE JOB Responding to the quick turnaround required for cleaning and the changing of curtains within bed areas on patient discharge. 11.
