The Role
The Ecology & Hydrology department within Natural Power is made up of a diverse range of ecologists and hydrologists with
considerable technical experience and expertise from having worked on renewable projects for over twelve years. Reporting
into the Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for providing onshore ecology services to clients within the renewables
industry. You will be responsible for the co-ordination of the onshore ecology team based in Dumfries and Galloway and
have an overview of all projects managed from here:
Some of the duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

Manage projects, including timescales and finance;

Provide advice on ecological issues in relation to renewable projects, during all project phases
(consenting, construction, post-construction, and decommissioning);

Prepare and provide written technical reports;

Prepare and provide scoping reports and EIA chapters;

Compile Information for Habitat Regulations Assessment;

Reviewing/authorising reports produced by other team members;

Provide Input into survey recommendations, design and data analysis;

Liaise with clients, landowners and statutory consultees throughout projects;

Business development and tendering for new work;

Line management of several Ecologists based in the Dumfries and Galloway office.
You will have an interesting, challenging and varied workload from day one. Due to the nature of the role and
people management element, you will be expected to spend part of your time working from our office in
Dumfries and Galloway (1-2 days per week).

Qualifications and Experience

Degree or equivalent in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline;

Demonstrable experience in a similar role, fulfilling comparable duties and responsibilities;

Have specialist ornithology and vegetation/habitat skills, specifically tailored for the renewable
industry;

Compiling EIA chapters, preferably onshore renewable EIAs and the overall planning system;

Writing technical reports, preferably for renewable projects;

Understanding of the issues surrounding ecology for on and off-shore construction projects, and
mitigation measures;

UK and European legislation in relation to protected habitats and species;

Habitats Regulations Assessments;

Project management skills;

Organising and conducting ecological surveys, both on and offshore;

Multiple project management;

Client management and business development;

Proficient user of I.T. software (Microsoft Office) to produce technical reports;

Exposure to Document Management Systems and/or Enterprise Resource Planning software would
be advantageous;

Excellent communication skills, being able to convey clear and concise information in both written and
verbal format to colleagues, clients, contractors and third parties.

Possessing a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card would also be beneficial; and

Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to be self-motivated and flexible with your time and
standard duties;

A full drivers’ licence is essential.

The position is based from either Ochil House in Stirling (FK7 7XE), or The Green House in rural Dumfries and Galloway
(DG7 3XS). If based from Stirling, you will be expected to have a regular presence in Dumfries and Galloway office
(1-2 days per week).
Ochil House: Recently refurbished to an excellent standard, the office is just off the A91 with easy access to M80 and M9
motorways. For those taking public transport the office is twenty minutes’ walk from Stirling train station and for those more
active, there is a bike shed, store room and showers available on site (why not take advantage of our bike to work scheme).
Further to this, we are next to The Peak sports complex offering; gym, pool, various courts/pitches, climbing wall amongst
other things (why not take advantage of our corporate membership rates).
The Green House: We are based in an environmentally friendly office in an 11,000 acre forest, allowing immediate access
to outdoor activities, such as; running, cycling, dog walking (kennels on site), golf, clay pigeon shooting and Loch Ken sailing
centre nearby. The Green House is one hour and forty minutes from drive from Glasgow and fifty minutes from Ayr and
Dumfries, as such you must be committed to working in this area.
