Paper Jams The majority of paper jams are caused by the paper, not by the photocopier. Paper is very sensitive to moisture and heat, and this can affect how the paper performs in the machine. The most common jam is when printing or copying double sided (also known as ‘duplex’ printing) If the paper contains moisture, the heat inside the photocopier quickly evaporates any moisture contained in the paper, causing the paper to curl. When the machine takes the paper back inside to print on the reverse, the curl then makes the paper jam. Hint & Tips Always try to “fan” the ream of paper before placing it into the paper tray. (Fanning paper can eliminate the risk of two pieces being stuck together and can also reduce static) Do not store paper for your printer in warm, humid or damp conditions If the machine jams, please check that the paper in the tray is not damp or overly curled. If it is, replace with new paper If your machine hasn’t been used for an extended period (e.g. over the summer break) please check the paper in the tray isn’t damp or curled before using.
