Tips to Remember for Transfer Students:
A.
General
 A maximum of 66 semester credit hours may be transferred from two-year junior or community
colleges.
 A minimum of 125 semester hours must be earned, of which 40 hours must be 300 or 400
(Junior or Senior) level courses. Such courses must be taken at a four-year college or
university. Any courses that are equated to UNK 300-400 courses do NOT count toward the
40 hour upper level requirement for graduation at UNK. A minimum of 32 semester hours
applicable to the selected degree program must be earned through UNK.
 Advising is mandatory for all students before they can register. To change endorsements
or add minors or second endorsements, students must go to the Academic Advising Office,
MSAB 180.
 Students who matriculate at UNK during fall 2007 or thereafter are required to complete 6
hours of Writing Intensive (WI) and 6 hours of Cultural Diversity (CD) courses. A limit of 3
hours of WI will transfer to meet this requirement
 This worksheet does not replace your degree audit.
B.
Admission to Teacher Education
 Students should be admitted to teacher education by the middle of their second year or
transfer students (if they study for two years at a community college) should plan to meet the
Admission to TE requirements at the end of their first semester at UNK.
 We recommend that all students, including transfers, complete the PRAXIS I in their 2nd year
of college.
 We recommend that transfer students complete 1 credit hour (minimum) field experience
(Practicum) while attending the community college – this field experience will substitute for the
Community Service Learning Project (CSLP).
 The Admission to Teacher Education Form and a complete list of admission requirements is
available in the KASE Office, COE C128. Application should be filled out in your first semester
at UNK.
C.
Student Teaching
 Applications for student teaching are due February 1st, for Fall placements and September 15th
for Spring placements. All students must attend one of the instructional sessions for student
teachers the semester before they apply.
