JUNIOR LECTURER
Requirements





An Honours Degree in African Languages or Linguistics or Applied Linguistics or Translation
Studies (with specialisation in Sesotho OR isiZulu OR siSwati OR isiXhosa)
A good theoretical knowledge of the discipline
Computer literacy
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in the language of specialisation
Sound interpersonal skills
Recommendations



Experience in the development of course material
Experience in teaching beginners’ language courses
Knowledge of e-Learning
Duties
Tuition:






Mark undergraduate and honours-level assignments
Assist in the marking of examination scripts
Write feed-back tutorial matter to students on completed assignments
Contribute towards research for the development of study material
Assist in compiling assignments and examination questions
Be involved in consultation with students (face-to-face, e-mail, telephonic, myUnisa, video
conferencing)
 Take part in Departmental group discussions/tutoring efforts
 Engage with opportunities for academic involvement at UNISA (e.g. attend and participate in
seminars)
 Assist with quality assurance
 Participate actively in the Department’s non-formal offerings and activities in the Centre for Pan
African Languages & Cultural Development
Research:
 Pursue own postgraduate studies and/or engage with research that will lead to the production of a
research output
Other:
 Perform general administrative tasks and functions associated with the execution of academic and
tuition tasks
 Any reasonable Departmental task allocated by the Chair of Department arising from the
Department’s execution of the University’s core functions
