I was privileged to take the lead in the funeral service retired pastor Rev. James Vos and again extend my sympathy to the Vos family. It was an exciting year in that we've seen attendance increasing at both churches, as well as membership. It was exciting to have our DS with us for the special Confirmation and membership Sunday in May. We had a great Lenten series at both churches, special Christmas and Easter services, as well as the regular Sunday worship services. I appreciate the lay leadership during worship and the folks who share their musical gifts. Special Services: Funerals: Florence Dimond (Wood), Rev. Vos, Darlene Hutchinson, Ronald Deutsch, Delvin Meyer, Mildred Harrison, Sylvia Draine (burial at Wood) Baptisms: Remington Edwards, Braylee M. Barrera Weddings: Miles and Grace Krogman, Terami and Rian Edwards Community: Mission Good Friday Service, Baccalaureate. speaker at WR High School, Mellette County Centennial Community Church Service Continuing Education: This year I was unable to attend Conference sponsored continuing education events, other than the March meeting in Watertown where we had a team of 4. I have been working with Ed Parselles of Lakota CARE on alcohol and outpatient treatment program, attending the (lecture) sessions, and being a pastoral counselor for the clients. My plan is to attend the Congress on Evangelism January 3-6, in Nashville. Jerry will attend with me as there is a track for lay ministry. Mission Trips: Jerry and I spent a week in Honduras in January on a Medical Mission trip. I finally got to Sager Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana in June, missed Annual Conference for the first time since coming back to the Dakotas as a pastor! I continue to be involved at Tree of Life, both on the board and as a volunteer. Community Involvement: Mellette County Historical Society, WR Lions Club, School activities as time permits, Rosebud Ministerial Association. The White River Ministerial is very loosely organized and meets as need via email primarily. The White River church has some goals for this year, after meeting with Jodi Cataldo, such as a corn bag toss game league at the church this winter, a games night, men's breakfast, Facebook page for the church, and so forth. All of these are ways for the church to welcome people in a non-worship setting, which it is our prayer will lead into an opportunity to gather for worship. The Mission church and I will discuss some goals at the next board meeting: an Advent event, family nights during the winter, a children's program after school at the Klein school once a month or some thing like that.... I thank Jerry, my husband, for his help and support in ministry and thank these two wonderful congregations for your support of us in our fostering adventure as well as in all of the ministries that happen through our churches. It is exciting to see you grow in faith and love in our communities. MISSION CHURCH REPORT On Super Bowl Day we had ‘Souper Bowl’ Sunday and collected cans of soup to donate to Tree of Life. Some of our members continue to help out at Tree of Life on Thursdays when they can. During Lent, we had a small, but faithful Lenten breakfast group meeting at the church, using Rob Bell’s Nooma series. The Turkey Fall Supper in October served a good crowd with lots of good food and socialization. We are planning our supper for November 5 this fall! The Hanging of the Greens in December was a good time for those there with potluck, singing, and making the church festive for the Christmas season. This spring two of our church youths, Elizabeth Klein and Lottie Grimshaw, participated in youth classes and joined our church. We welcome both of them. Elizabeth helps with Sunday School. In July, long time church member Delvin Meyers died and the funeral was held at the church. Last summer we had two ‘No-bake’ sales, one in June and one in July, to help raise money for church expenses. In September we had a real bake sale. The weather was nice and the cinnamon rolls went fast. In August, member Kati Jo Klein was married to Kyle Sykora at the United Methodist Church in Winner. This fall six health kits and money donations were sent to the In-gathering. Four Backpacks were given for the North Dakota project, along with two Children’s Toy Bags. We have a Sunday school class again this fall after several years without one. Thank you to Marlette Glanzer. An exciting was a VIM team from Wichita, Kansas spending several days doing repairs in and on our church building. The roof is holding and the flies aren’t getting in, for which are grateful. WHITE RIVER CHURCH REPORTS EVANGELISM REPORT 2011 It seems like I just did a report for charge conference....and somehow another year has slipped by! We have continued to do some of the same activities as we have in the past to keep our doors open and our hearts open in the United Methodist Church; hoping to make people feel welcome in our church as well as our community. Each week at our worship service we recognize those who have birthdays, anniversaries, or are visting that Sunday with us, with a scripture card, loaf of bread, cookies, or other small treat. Doris has been sending get well, anniversary, sympathy, or "whatever" cards to fit the occasion to people among our church family to let them know we care about them and what is happening in their life is important to us. Whether it be a good thing or a concern. We have updated the little kids "pew bags" to help keep little ones entertained during the worship service. Amy has headed up the "fix a meal" for those in need when the time arises. The church ran the concession stand at the Frontier Days Ranch Rodeo and held the annual breakfast that Sunday morning to raise money for youth and general church funding. Later in September we also had the concession stand for a roping that was postponed from Frontier Days weekend. Not only for money reasons, we feel it is important to let the community be aware that we are a church at work! We normally do something for the teachers at the beginning of the school year, which didn't happen this year due to conflicts in scheduling, so we will still try to do an in-service meal or something at a later date. We continue working to make our sanctuary our home, and our home a sanctuary. Phoebe Krogman Evangelism Chair WORSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT In 2011 the worship committee has assisted in planning worship services including a change of order of the service, planning hymns on a monthly basis, planning seasonal services (Lent and Advent) and also finding Sundays like Native American Day, World Communion Sunday and Homecoming Sunday, just to name a few. The worship committee consists of Chairperson Stacy Twite, John Gross, Rose West, Brandy Fairbanks and Betty Carr. Future plans for the committee are to keep helping with the hymn selections for each month, planning Lent and Advent Wednesday night services, drama, weekly worship services, and the other needs as they come. Stacy Twite, worship committee chair WHITE RIVER MEMORIAL COMMITTEE 2011 The Memorial Committee is the steward of the money received by the church from individuals or families in memory or honor of an individual. Often this money comes with a specific request from the family with regards to how it should be spent. And other times, money is given with no specific request leaving its spending up to the Memorial Committee with the approval of the Administrative Board. Since the 2011 Charge Conference the White River United Methodist Church Memorial Committee has received undesignated memorial money in memory of Rev. James Vos, Darlene Hutchinson and Mary Krogman in the amount of $2757. $375 of undesignated memorial funds was used to purchase a screen for the sanctuary. Held over in the account from last year was $3,265 designated for bathroom remodeling and this amount was dispensed throughout this past year as the remodeling progressed. All items purchased for the church with memorial money and the name of the donor are recorded in a memory book on display in the church sanctuary. Serving on the memorial committee are Rosie Glynn and Katie Jensen. Katie Jensen - Chairwoman WR MISSIONS REPORT This spring pastor Linda and I traveled to the UMCOR Depot [Sager Brown] at Baldwin Louisiana. We spent a busy week preparing kits for shipping to various points of need. Our local church continued to prepare kits for the Ingathering at Southeast Pierre Church. We contributed 47 health kits and 9 school kits. We have continued supporting several of the Conference “Special Askings”. We also continue to send things to the Tree of Life mission and to the Rosebud Shelter. We appreciate our congregation’s support for our projects! Jeannine Woodward - Chairperson
